Belogorsky Monastery, Perm Territory. Belogorsky Monastery: Opening Hours

In Russia, there are many holy places where thousands of pilgrims flock, believers and sufferers - in search of spiritual purification, getting rid of the ills of bodily, moral enlightenment and simply to embrace spiritual beauty. One of these centers, "places of power", is rightly considered a male monastery in the Perm region, for the severity of the statute and the holiness of the services nicknamed the people "Athos the Urals".

Journey to the Urals

So, let's go to the White Mountain, which for a long time after the onset of spring flaunts its lush snow cap among other peaks of the Urals ridge. By the way, hence the name steep! There is a natural complex about 120 km from the regional city of Perm. It was here that the Belogorsky Monastery was once built. Perm Region - beautiful places, with amazing nature, harsh and simple at the same time. It is also unassuming and majestic, like the people who inhabited these places from time immemorial and live here now. And the holy monastery, called St. Nicholas, organically fits into its architecture in the surrounding landscape. By the nature of its activities, it refers to spiritual missionary institutions. And in 40 km from the parish is a small town of Kungur. Thus, the main attraction of the surrounding area is the Belogorsky Monastery. The Perm region can no longer be represented without it.

Excursion to the history

The Urals have long been a multi-ethnic area. Europe and Asia have united here, having generated unique climatic conditions. Dense forests, rich in game, lakes, generous for fish, terrestrial bowels with deposits of natural resources made this area more than attractive for a variety of peoples - both indigenous, who lived here from time immemorial, and newcomers who came here in search of a better share or fleeing From the cruel landlords. Bashkirs, Mongols, Tatars, Kazakhs were neighbors with Mansi, Komi, Udmurt, Khanty. Russian-Kazakh steppes and mountains have become the focus of many unique cultures, customs, traditions. For example, in the 18th century the Old Believers were hiding from persecution, creating their sketes-settlements. At that time the Belogorsky monastery was not built here, the Perm region was not different in this from other half-wild provinces of Russia.

Bookmark the monastery

The year 1891 is a memorable one for these places. Tsesarevich Nikolai Alekseevich was 22 years old when he decided to go on an "eastern" journey in order to raise the level of knowledge, better get acquainted with the state systems of other countries. In Japan, he was assassinated, several blows with sabers almost became deadly. In honor of his escape from danger and recovery on the White Mountain, first installed a huge ten-meter cross - "royal". Then the highest ranks of the Orthodox Church decided to build on this elevation Belogorsky monastery. The Perm region, thus, twice went down in history, which beneficially affected these places. Immediately the "character" of the monastery was defined: missionary, that is, with elements of charity, the male parish, named St. Nicholas.

Start of construction

Solemn moleben and lighting of the construction site were held in 1893, June 18. The site of the site on the White Mountain, plans and drawings - everything was prepared in advance. In 1894 the Belogorsky monastery already began to work, as the temple was already completely rebuilt, although it is still wooden. Then the works continued over the buildings where monks were to be housed, various business premises, the abbot, etc. They opened a school for orphans, in which 25 boys lived and were educated. An interesting detail: there was a Belogorsky monastery for men on their own support. Monks, mastering peasant skills (and many of them were familiar with childhood), plowed and sowed, planted, bred livestock and poultry, engaged in fishing and beekeeping. Fulfilling the Christian duty, they provided free assistance to the surrounding population with products. In the bad years many people saved the monastery bread!

Minutes of the fatal

They did not bypass the house of God either. Although there were moments of true triumph. For example, in September 1897, 5 miracle-working icons delivered to the Belogorsky Monastery (Perm) for a long religious procession, in which not only the Orthodox clergy took part, but also thousands of pilgrims, to fortify the spirit of believers, in the name of glorifying the Lord. Throughout the district, solemn thanksgiving services and prayer services were held. And then the main temple and buildings suffered the fate of many wooden buildings: from a sudden fire, they all burned to the ground. The drama occurred just three years after the discovery. And even after 4 years during the revelry of the elements, the Tsar's cross also fell down with a heavy wind. Restored it all the world, society. Particularly helped by the merchant class. Demolished the symbol of faith was in 1918, with the establishment of the Soviet power in the Urals.

The second life of the monastery

Not only the cross, but the monastery itself wanted to restore the people. What did Belogorsky Monastery look like before the fire? The photo, alas, did not survive. Remained only written memoirs of contemporaries.

Again, funds began to be collected. A huge number of people took part in the donations. Contributions were from ordinary parishioners - poor burghers and peasants. The famous residents of Perm and Kungur, industrialists, merchants, patrons of various kinds, cultural and art workers of the region, neighboring clergy and the churches of the capital - no one remained aloof from the good cause. And the money required a lot, because it was planned to erect a solid stone building, which is not afraid of fires, storms and other disasters.

The laying of a new cathedral, Krestovozdvizhenskogo, was therefore not soon, only in 1902. With God's help it was built almost a decade and a half, the architecture reflects a strict classical Byzantine style. Among the builders were primarily monks: they made bricks, laying masonry. The new building, beautiful in its strict grandeur, accommodated 8 thousand believers. Among the existing spiritual monasteries of local significance, the largest was the Belogorsky Monastery (Perm Territory, photos are attached). At the great celebration of the opening and consecration of the building there were about 30 thousand parishioners and pilgrims. This happened in the summer of 1917. It seemed that the monastery was waiting for many years of service to the light, kind, divine.

Revolution, repression, war

However, history makes its own adjustments to human plans. So the monastery, in order to become a truly hotbed of spirituality and true faith, had to endure a lot in its time. During the revolutionary battles and battles of the civil war, the monastery was repeatedly plundered and desecrated. Were cruelly tortured, drowned in Kama or shot by representatives of the leading clergy headed by Archimandrite Varlaam, as well as almost all rank-and-file monks. The school for orphans, of course, was closed. Since 1923, the defiled house of God was used for torture chambers by the Cheka, the police. And since 1930, the same camp was opened here, where repressed and special settlers were held. A year later the building was adapted for the House of Disabled. Then there were various medical social institutions: during the Great Patriotic War, a rehabilitation center for the wounded and disabled veterans of the Second World War, labor and childhood, in which people were kept in conditions very far from civilized. Well, in 1980, Belogorie again flared up. At the cathedral even the domes burned out.

Holy place

Yes, the folk proverb of law, when it says that a holy place will not be empty. And in the perestroika period, when the values were reassessed, Russian culture was returned not only the forgotten or deleted names of figures of literature, music, painting, undeservedly forgotten works of art, but also cult centers. So Belogorsky monastery, or rather, everything that is left of it, again moved to the office of the Orthodox Church. A big role in this important event was played by the solemn celebration of the day of the baptism of Rus. The necessary amounts have been allocated from the central and regional budget. And again, restoration and restoration work began both in all buildings of the monastery, and in the main attraction of the complex - the Cross Exaltation Cathedral. There is no harm without good - thanks to modern technology, a natural spring with healing water was discovered on the territory of the monastery, which made these places more famous and popular.

Daily routine and services

Services go in the name of the suffering and sick, burdened with various bodily ailments. These relics were taken to the monastery from St. Athos (Greece) as far back as 1907 and preserved by the people betrayed by God through all the vicissitudes of history and personal destinies.
