VILAR (botanical garden): green corner in the center of a megacity

On the territory of the Moscow region Butovo there is an amazing oasis of medicinal plants and aromatic herbs - VILAR - a botanical garden. The scientific research institute with a garden stretches on the territory of the former estate of the famous patron and pharmacist Ferreina in the distant 1931. Such a huge area - more than 45 hectares - can not boast more than a garden!

A little from the history of the origin of botanical gardens

The unique healing properties of medicinal herbs were known in ancient times, and in the Middle Ages, monks broke small gardens at monasteries. The first persons of the state tried to promote the development of "apothecary gardens", encouraged the import of plants from other countries and even continents - green treasures were supplied from the Middle East, the Arabian Peninsula and the black continent. Later, the "apothecary gardens" grew to the size of botanical gardens.

Experimental fields

Botanical Garden VILAR (Butovo) is famous throughout the world for its experimental fields, plants and seeds, which the institute exchanges with more than half a hundred gardens on the globe. On its immense lands comprehend the nets of botany students of agricultural universities and conduct scientific work eminent professors.

Virtual walk through VILAR - botanical garden

At the entrance to the botanical garden, we are met by a site with plants separated by pharmacological features. Plants that exert a tonic effect on the body grow first. Among them are famous and popular in the people eleutherococcus, lemongrass, golden root. Behind them there are plants of calming spectrum of action: motherwort, Maryin root, valerian ... In this pharmacopoeial part of the garden you can find medicinal plants of the whole range of effects on the human body, there are more than two hundred of them.

The entire territory of VILAR (the botanical garden is very large, we recall) is divided into several botanical-geographical zones: the Caucasus, Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia, Crimea, European Russia, North America and Europe. Here grow wild plants inherent in a certain territorial zone. Preference is given to edificators - plants, which are a kind of "visiting card" of the region, and medicinal plants of scientific value. Total trees, bushes and grasses in the garden are about one and a half thousand.

VILAR is a botanical garden with its own greenhouse with tropical and subtropical plants. Five hundred heat-loving plants are carefully cultivated in the greenhouse complex.

Man-made ponds

On the site of the former ravines and tributary of the Bitza River in the second half of the 20th century, three man-made ponds were comfortably settled. In some places, springs are still beating - so the river makes itself felt. Local residents have long loved the botanical garden VILAR. Fishing is a very popular activity on ponds, lovers of "quiet hunting" come here and from other parts of the capital.

Scientific and educational work

VILAR is a botanical garden that actively attracts schoolchildren's attention to environmental issues, conducting cognitive excursions all year round: in winter in the greenhouse complex, in summer - in the garden. There are special destinations for disabled people and pensioners. Experimental fields study the useful properties of herbs students-pharmacists and students of colleges of landscape design.

This green island of nature invariably attracts tired people from the crazy city rhythm of people who want to enjoy the purity and freshness of the wild corner.
