Attractions-Baits For Tourists In Hong Kong

It often happens that a lot is told in the guidebook about the sights, but on arrival it turns out to be a usual bait for tourists. There are more than a dozen such baits in Hong Kong. All of them were created and promoted by the Hong Kong government literally in the last twenty years, when he began to make money not only on the image of the "financial center", but also on the image of the "cultural center".

1. Avenue of Stars (2004). This is a fairly mediocre copy of the Hollywood Alley of Stars. Here there are all the same stars with names and prints of the hands of famous Hong Kong actors and directors. The catch is that the average person does not know any of them except Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. The stars themselves are small and inconspicuous, and it can be seen that they are made of inexpensive materials, because the paint on most of them has already erased. Earn on tourists, selling souvenirs and expensive food. The only plus here is an excellent view of the Victoria Bay.

2. The Big Buddha (1993). It is a giant Buddha statue at a century-old monastery. Any tourist (non-Buddhist) will feel deceived, having reached Lantau Island, having reached this statue by expensive cable car, scrambling on foot for more than 200 steps and having received ... nothing! At the foot of the Buddha there is always a crowd of tourists who simply do not understand why they came there, because there's absolutely nothing to do. The minus can be turned into a plus, having gone for a walk on the neighboring islands (but not to the neighboring village and the monastery, because they are very commercialized).

3. Victoria Peak . It is a mountain with a magnificent view of the whole city center. It would seem that there can not be a dirty trick here. But it is, and is hidden in the weather. Hong Kong is located on the islands, so here the humidity level is constantly raised and fog is standing. That is, in most of the days of the year the city can be discerned only through a veil of varying degrees of density. And, of course, no stunning photos (and go here mostly behind them) will not work. Naturally, Pique also has a full business set: an expensive restaurant, souvenir shops, a short climb on the "historic" tram and a sea of people.

In addition to the above attractions, this list can make all the famous shops and markets : Stanley Market, Western Market and Knight Market. All of them are designed for tourists who do not know the real Hong Kong prices and are ready to buy things in three, four, or even ten times more expensive.

In Hong Kong, one should be very critical of everything that is younger than thirty, since with a very high degree of probability it can be said that it was built exclusively to attract tourists, and in fact does not bring them any benefit and has no value.
