Asunción is the capital of Paraguay, an economic, political and cultural center.
Located in the western part of the state, on the flat left bank of the river of the same name. The natural conditions in Asunción are formed under the influence of a hot humid tropical climate. The average January temperature is about twenty-eight degrees, in July about eighteen. In winter, southern winds blow in the city, bringing streams of dry cool air.


Beautiful country - Paraguay. The capital is in the zone of tropical forests. Part of the coastal area of the Paraguay River is in a marshy state. The plant world is mainly represented by numerous species of palm trees and herbaceous cereals. There are areas on which valuable and rare species of trees grow: guayakan, chnyar, kebracho. In the province of Asuncion and its environs, many kinds of beautiful tropical birds (tukans, nandu, ibises, parrots) are widespread. From mammals live bats, capybara (a relative of guinea pig) and armadillos. Among the bushes and trees are building their own large dwelling termites. On hot days, people living in the capital suffer from the invasion of a large number of harmful insects - ticks, mosquitoes and locusts.



Language, population and religion

The capital of Paraguay is a city with a million inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants are ideologically Spanish-Mexican descent-Guarani. Also in the city live immigrants from Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Ukraine and Russia. The state languages are Guarani and Spanish. Among the inhabitants is a variant of Guarani, which is characterized by a large number of words borrowed from Spanish. Most of the residents are Catholics, except for whom there are still Orthodox Christians and Protestants in the city.

Culture of the city

The appearance of the historical center of the capital has well-marked features of the conquest period. In the city there are magnificent buildings of monasteries and churches, which were erected by the Jesuits. There are educational institutions, such as the Catholic University and the University of Asuncion.


Recently, painstaking scientific work has been conducted in the city to study the history of the state and culture. Here there are institutes in which scientists conduct research in the field of ethnography and linguistics. Among such institutions - the Academy of Culture and Language of Indians Guarani, as well as the Association of Indians.

The capital of Paraguay is famous for its concerts of folk music in the style of Guaranja, which has gained popularity among residents. These musical compositions originate from folk songs of Guaranha Indians who lived on the territory of the state even before the arrival of the conquistadors. Also in the city there is a military and symphony orchestras.

The capital of Paraguay is a city of people who love sports, especially football. It is here that there are numerous sports competitions, matches in football, basketball and volleyball, and auto racing. Asuncion, whose hotels are famous throughout the world for hospitality and quality of service, awaits fans and sports fans from all over the world!
