Attache is a responsible post

Attaché is the rank or position of an employee of the diplomatic department. He is called to represent his country in this or that area and to carry out interaction between the profile departments of the two states. At the same time, additional functions may be imposed on him, depending on his specialization. He has diplomatic immunity.

In modern world international practice there are several categories of attachés. It:

  • Military. Represent their department, they work as advisers on military issues.
  • Special. Narrow professionals on various issues: industry, finance, agriculture, trade, culture and so on.
  • Press attaché. They are assigned questions of information and the press.
  • Diplomatic. Junior staff of the central office of foreign affairs.
  • Honorable. People who have chosen a career as a diplomat, but not yet enlisted in the staff of the corps.

During the thirty-year war, in the seventeenth century, the French government sent several of its officers out of the country. Their task was to communicate with the union state, monitor military preparations and collect intelligence information. In the eighteenth century, the military attache in the diplomatic service was already a common practice.

General training

Requirements in different countries for candidates for this position are different. At the appointment take into account the level of training, the type of troops, language skills, length of service, education. A common rule for all is that an attaché is an officer.

The training of specialists of the military department for the further passage of service has general principles:

  • Mandatory in-depth language training. Depending on the specifics of the place of stay, there may be different levels of knowledge, from minimal, but with perfect English, to absolute mastery of the country's language, taking into account local dialects.
  • Free orientation in matters of national defense and security, knowledge of the structure of the armed forces. Intelligence skills, including special computer training.
  • Knowledge of legislation and procedural norms. Ability to perform some functions of the intelligence plan without violating the law.
  • In-depth knowledge of the host country, its culture, customs, etiquette of behavior. And this training is not only officers, but also members of their families.

The most diverse representatives of the army are appointed to the position of attache. The kind of troops can be any. In the American diplomatic corps the largest state is a few hundred people. At the same time, representatives of naval, land and air forces can be present.

Duties of the military attache

Attaché is obliged:

  1. Protect the interests and security of your country;
  2. Represent the military command of their country and carry out its communication with the relevant representatives of the host State;
  3. Be an adviser on military matters for the ambassador;
  4. To promote the promotion of the defense industry;
  5. Quickly respond to crisis situations and be able to resolve conflict issues that have arisen between countries.

The military attache is also the person responsible for the security of the ambassador and the staff of the diplomatic department.
