Are there hypoallergenic cats?

When we hear the phrase "hypoallergenic cats" - this does not mean that these breeds do not cause allergies at all. For the prefix "hypo" (from Latin) means "weak", that is, when a person is sensitive to allergic manifestations caused by a cat breed and this is not always salvation. In order to protect yourself and not hurt in the future the psyche of the animal (if you have to give it up), before deciding to purchase a kitten, you need to undergo a medical examination for allergies to cats. It is advisable, before making a final decision, to spend some time next to the cat of the chosen breed to once again make sure that the joint existence next to this charming creature will not harm your health.

At the time of purchase, the breeder should immediately find out whether it is possible to return the kitten in case the allergy manifests itself, when the animal is taken from the shelter - there is a guarantee - it will in any case be taken back. However, I do not want to part with a fur seal! A hypoallergenic cat and proper care of it will be able to provide lovers of these amazing animals with a comfortable and joyful living together. It is necessary to adhere to and conclusions, based on the observation of allergies and their reaction to cats:

  • It is noticed that cats are ahead of cats for the production of allergens;
  • Castrated or sterilized animals are less allergic;
  • Light colored cats are four times less likely to cause allergic symptoms than cats of dark colors;
  • A smaller allergic reaction is caused by kittens.

Hypoallergenic breeds of cats

Of the seven eastern breeds of cats, three belong to the hypoallergenic. This is a good solution for those wishing to have a cat in their house that does not cause allergies, characterized as a Siamese popular cat. These include:

  • Balinese: looking at this wonderful long-haired creation of Siamese color, it is difficult to believe that it is hypoallergenic. And yet it is proved that this particular breed is listed in a small list of cats that produce a small amount of Fel D1 protein compared to individuals of other breeds, which provokes allergic manifestations in sensitive people.
  • Oriental shorthair: in itself the breed is extremely demanding for cleanliness, it implies very careful care by the owners.
  • Hypoallergenic cats. Javanese: a kind of Balinese rock with an average length of wool. A small selection of allergens is due to the lack of undercoat and a finer wool structure in animals of this breed.

Cats of breed "Rex", having a small amount of wool - a find for allergy sufferers:

  • Devon-rex: a short-haired breed with a small amount of wool requires minimal care on the part of the owner.
  • Cornish Rex: with representatives of this breed much more trouble compared to the previous one. For a comfortable content they must be washed frequently.

And these two hypoallergenic cats are completely opposite in appearance to the breed of cats, as they say - to the lover:

  • Sphinx: the complete absence of hair on the body of the animal does not mean lack of care for it, on the contrary, it is necessary to wash it frequently and take care of its big ears.
  • Siberian: the breed of these cats is characterized by wool of moderate length. These are hypoallergenic cats due to the low protein content of the enzyme in the saliva. It is believed that even in people suffering from allergy in 75% this is not a reaction to the Siberian cat.

Since the cause of allergies to cats is glycoprotein - a protein that is secreted by the glands of the internal secretion of cat's skin, it is present everywhere (in saliva, in the roots of hair, mucous secretions, urine, feces) and, accordingly, spreads throughout the house, settles on Furniture, clothes, etc. To reduce the number of allergens, even if given a hypoallergenic cat, it is necessary to adhere to some simple rules:

  • Wash the cat twice a week with a face wash;
  • Use of anti-allergic napkins;
  • Sterilization (castration) ;
  • Compulsory washing of hands after each stroking of the cat;
  • Frequent washing of clothes. To give preference to things made of cotton, avoiding, if possible, woolen;
  • Frequent wet cleaning of the room with hot water;
  • Make a choice in favor of flooring of tiles, laminate, linoleum, wood. Rid of carpeting - collectors of allergens;
  • Heavy curtains - also not for lovers of cats who have allergic reactions to them;
  • Limit the possible penetration of the cat into the bathroom and bedroom, access to clothing;
  • Organization of a cat's own place for sleep;
  • Placing the cat's toilet in a ventilated place, frequent change of filler;
  • Use of high quality air purifiers;
  • Avoid the appearance of other allergens in the house (pollen, chemicals, mold, dust, smoke, scented candles , etc.), which can aggravate a more severe allergic reaction and asthma;
  • Preliminary consultation with a specialist and his recommendations for taking antiallergic drugs and methods of therapy.

Here are these ways to help reduce the number of allergens, and your pet will please you.
