We accept delivery in a cat

Sexually mature cats are already seven months old, and sometimes even earlier. But knitting them up to a year is still not recommended. At such an early age, pregnancy and birth in cats can occur with complications, and the offspring will be weak.

Do not rely on the proverb "Quickly only cats will be born." Of course, in many cases, even the first birth of a cat is rather easy, but sometimes the owner's participation and assistance is simply necessary.

Preparation for childbirth

Prepare the python for the birth until knitting. Make sure that the animal is not sick. Your pet should be active, with a good muscle tone. This will subsequently affect how the genus in the cat will generally pass.

Pregnancy in cats lasts two months (an average of 60-65 days). About the "nest" for babies and moms, you need to take care in advance. The future mother should get used to a new place. For this purpose, you can use a spacious box or boxes with a removable lid and with a separately cut out entrance for the cat. The tight box will not allow it to normally push and continue to care for the offspring, and the absence of the lid is inconvenient for the owner, since it does not allow to observe what is happening (even changing diapers becomes problematic).

At the bottom of the bed a blanket, diapers, old sheets - the main thing that everything was washed and ironed. Prepare several diapers in addition. They will be needed during and after delivery (for a change). Just in case, prepare several napkins for wiping newborn kittens , scissors for cutting the umbilical cord, a thick thread for her bandaging, iodine (or alcohol) for disinfection.

How to understand that the birth of a cat will soon begin?

The cat abruptly changes behavior, seeks refuge, becomes restless. It can start to avoid you or, on the contrary, demand attention. From the vagina appear discharge, with a slight squeezing of the nipples appears colostrum.

Childbirth in a cat. Flow

On the beginning of births signals the withdrawal of waters having a gray-red color. Skirmishes usually come an hour before the first kitten appears. Usually birth lasts no more than a day. If after six hours after the water has gone, the kitten does not appear, contact the veterinarian. This also applies to the time intervals between the appearance of kittens: the gap between them should not be more than three hours. Intervals between the appearance of kittens - from a few minutes to three hours. Babies appearing in the light are connected by the umbilical cord with the afterbirth. Mom-cat gnaws the umbilical cord, eats it along with the afterbirth and begins to carefully lick the baby.

In the intervals between contractions, offer the mother to the mother (or, better, warm milk).

The owner should not interfere with the passing birth of a cat. Intervention from the outside can irritate, and in this case the mother can eat the born babies. If you notice that the fights are weak, stroke your tummy and back with your hand. If the baby is stuck in the birth canal, gently pull it. Pull better at the paws - slightly to the right, slightly to the left (alternating), given attempts. If a torso appears, grab it with your fingers (you can use a napkin for a smaller slip) and pull out the same as in the first option. Do not pull by the head. You can break the fragile cervical vertebrae and the kitten will die. You can not pull with force (only during a tug and very carefully). You can pull the kitten only along the body of the cat, but not perpendicular to its position!

After the appearance of the kitten, the placenta must come out. If the placenta is stuck, pull it out with your fingers. The remaining placenta will eventually decompose and lead to severe consequences.

If the cub appeared in the shell, rip it (if it was not done by the mother cat) and immediately wipe the newborn with a spout so that it does not have enough time to inhale the amniotic fluid. Then take the kitten in the hand upside down (keep the head with your fingers, it should not hang) and shake it from top to bottom. This procedure will help to get out of the lungs, and the baby will begin to breathe. Breathing should be without wheezing. If necessary, you can repeat. The tongue of the kitten should be pink (blue speaks for lack of oxygen).

You may have to cut the umbilical cord, since cats do not always do this (especially if the cat's birth is first). Tap the cord with a thread (two centimeters from the tummy) and cut. Naturally, everything must be disinfected. Cut the stranded umbilical cord with iodine.

Take care that the kittens do not lay wet. If the cat itself is badly licked, use napkins and wipe the kitten (this is also an extra massage).

If the kittens are many and the cat does not manage to cope, separate the ones born earlier and put them in a prepared dry place with a hot water bottle. And after the birth, put the kittens back to the mother.

Even after childbirth is over, keep clean in the delivery box, avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes. In the first days of life, kittens are very vulnerable.
