When and where did the samovar appear?

Have you ever thought, since when did people start boiling water? There are mentions that the ancient Romans did this in a special way. In the vessel with water it was necessary to throw a large red-hot stone. As a result, they received boiling water. Something like this samovar was used by the Chinese, but for cooking just hot water. But in Russia samovar appeared only in the 18th century.

History

For some reason, there are rumors among people that the idea of a samovar from Holland was brought by Peter I. In fact, they appeared after the death of the emperor. If to judge on reliable sources, the beginning of manufacturing of a product is dated 1778 year. The first copper samovar was made in the district of the Tula region by the Lisitsyn brothers. The invention pleased the people and it became good to buy out. Over time, this allowed the brothers to expand production. They recruited more workers and created a factory for the production of samovars.

The requirements for the goods grew, the profitability of production was noticed by other masters and began to open their workshops in Tula. Now the buyers were given a choice of the material from which the product was manufactured. It could be nickel, copper, furnace or brass. For rich clients, the masters covered the capacity with silver or gold. They were refined, changing the shape of the product, covering it with chased patterns.

The device and the principle of operation

The samovar is a container for heating and boiling water. Inside the product is inserted a pipe that reaches the top of the samovar. It served to load fuel. The container and pipe were isolated from each other. From above it was covered with a burner. On the side of the vessel was mounted a crane, and on the sides of the handle. Pour water into the container. The pipe was filled with fuel in the form of chips, twigs or cones and ignited. At the same time, it was heated and gave heat to the water, which quickly boiled. It cooled down not at once, because the fuel kept the temperature for a while. Thanks to the tap, boiled water was poured without problems into the teapot for welding, which was then placed on the burner. Preservation of a certain distance from the tap to the bottom did not allow the suspensions from the boiling water to enter the teapot. If the fuel damped, it was necessary to inflate the fire. According to the old grandfather's method, a crocheted boot used as furs was used for this.
