Ankle Stretching: Diagnosis and Treatment

What is the ankle sprain? This is damage, that is, a partial rupture of ligaments or one of them in the ankle. The function of the tendons is to stabilize the connection of the bones and limit its movements from side to side, while the movement of the down and the up remains free. Most often, the external ligaments that suffer from jerking the legs inwards are jeopardized. Such a trauma can be a consequence of both a fall, a sudden stroke, a sharp turn, and an innate weakness of the tendons.

Stretching of the ankle can have varying degrees of severity. It depends on how many hairs are injured, and how many fibers are broken in each of them. A characteristic feature of this type of injury is that only ligaments are damaged, the muscles remain intact.

Symptoms

Stretching of the ankle, is accompanied by the following symptoms:

• Painful sensations in the joint
• Swelling of the injured area
• Bruising
• Difficulty walking
• Stiff joints
• The connection is unstable (the leg is folded over and over again)

Depending on how severe the sprain of the ankle is, the intensity of the symptoms varies. For example, in people who have already had tendon tenderness earlier, swelling and pain may not be present, but a feeling of abnormal leg position appears when walking. Nevertheless, treatment is necessary in any case.

Treatment

Stretching the ankle requires special attention from the medicine, and there are at least 4 reasons for this:

1. In the absence of treatment, chronic instability of the ankle joint may occur, and this is a permanent, enduring discomfort.

2. The consequences of injury, other than stretching, may be more serious damage associated with bone destruction. Without treatment, they can lead to major health problems.

3. Against the background of an ankle sprain, an undetected injury to the foot can pass.

4. The earlier the recovery of injured tendons begins, the faster and fuller the rehabilitation will be. Otherwise, the normalization of ligament work may be difficult.

Stretching of the ankle is treated with the following means:

• Peace. The patient's leg should be spared, especially in the first days after the injury.

• Cold. Ice is applied to the damage site for 15 minutes, then the procedure is repeated an hour later.

• Fixing. Applying a bandage with an elastic bandage stabilizes the joint and helps reduce puffiness.

• The room is on a raised platform. The ankle should be placed above the level of the heart, which will reduce puffiness and pain. For this purpose chairs, pillows and any other handy tools with which help it is possible to give a leg to the raised position will approach.

• Healing Fitness. On the 2nd-4th day after the injury, it's time to start the warm-up exercises. This can be flexion and extension of the joint, the rotation of the feet in different directions. If the classes cause pain or severe discomfort, then the rehabilitation program needs an adjustment. The doctor will make corrections in accordance with your condition, in order to quickly restore the full function of the ankle joint.

• Pharmacological preparations. Use a variety of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, for example, "Ibuprofen" and other drugs based on it. This allows to remove inflammation and pain symptom. With congenital weakness of the ligaments, special supplements are prescribed, strengthening the joints.

Operation

In difficult cases, surgical intervention is recommended, which involves the stitching of damaged tendons. The mode of operation depends on the specific case, type of injury and its severity, and also on how active the patient is.

Postoperative rehabilitation is crucial for restoring the function of the joint, regular visits to the doctor during this period is very important.
