An analysis of Tsvetaeva's poem "Motherland"

The lyrics of Marina Tsvetaeva, dedicated to her homeland, are imbued with profound and to some extent desperate love for the country. Russia for the poetess always remains in her soul (this is especially evident in the works of the period of emigration). We will analyze the poem "Motherland" by Tsvetaeva and trace the main thoughts of the author in it.

The analysis of Tsvetaeva's poem must begin with the fact that it was written during the years of emigration, at a time when her longing for her native places was constantly tormented her. We see that the poetess does not give rest to remoteness from the Russian lands. In the third stanza, the author calls the homeland "born far", emphasizing the attachment that will exist regardless of place and desire. Tsvetaeva strengthens this image, calling this connection "fatal", saying that she "carries" her homeland with her everywhere. Love for Russia for the poetess as a cross, which she accepts and with which she is never ready to part.

Tsvetaeva connects herself not only with her native lands, but also with the Russian people. In the first stanza, she compares herself to the ordinary peasant, recognizing that they share a common feeling. This must be said about the analysis of the verse. Tsvetaeva is close to the Russian people when he is full of love for his native country.

An analysis of Tsvetaeva's poem can not do without mentioning that the poetess is drawn to her homeland in addition to her will. In the fourth stanza, Russia (called "Dahl") calls for a lyrical heroine, "removes" her from "mountain stars." Wherever she fled, the love of her homeland will always return her back.

But if here we still see that the melancholy of the lyrical heroine at home is the will of her fate, then the last quatrain puts everything in its place. It plays a special role and must be included in the analysis of Tsvetaeva's poem. In it we see that the lyrical heroine is proud of her homeland and is ready to sing it out even at the price of her own death ("I'll sign my lips / On the scaffold").

To describe the contradictory feelings of love for a distant homeland, Tsvetaeva uses oxymorons: "a stranger, my homeland," "a distant distance from me," and repeated repetitions of the word "distance," used to designate Russia, then another's land. The lyrical heroine suffers, she is tormented by thoughts about how much separates her from her favorite places. In the last lines we see even a peculiar dialogue between her and her homeland. And the replica of the heroine is represented only one eloquent "you!", Facing Russia. She does not find other words to express her love, except for short, but capacious "my homeland". And in this phrase, repeated throughout the entire poem, we can see, it would seem, a simple, but profound attitude of Tsvetaeva to her homeland.

This completes our analysis. Tsvetaeva's poems dedicated to her homeland are full of profound and painful love that fills the soul of the lyrical heroine with a desperate desire to glorify the Russian land. Unfortunately, the fate of the poet did not allow her to achieve recognition in Russia during her lifetime. But nowadays her lyrics can be analyzed, and the depth and tragedy of her love for her native land is appreciated.
