Ambition is evil or virtue?

Of course, I have heard many times that ambitions are an ambiguous concept, and for each person they are associated with certain pictures. Someone immediately represents a businessman walking on his head and unable to see beyond his nose, that is, his career. And someone sees an ordinary person who dreams to break out into the bright future with the help of one of his strong desire.

As always, we turn to the scientific justification, in which ambition is, firstly, the desire to reach some heights, which few climb, secondly - a sharpened self-esteem, and also multiplied by a hundred times self-conceit.

Definitions are on two diametrically opposite sides. With one of them, ambition is good, on the other - it's bad. We have to figure out where this kind of substitution for concepts comes from, when one term is interpreted in completely different ways. Perhaps we do not understand something? We'll figure it out.

So, if we asked a Frenchman, a Pole, an Englishman or a Russian a few centuries ago what ambitions are, then we would get an unambiguous answer - swagger, arrogance, ambitiousness, ambition. The same meaning is given when translating from the Latin language (ambitio). An ambitious person is perceived as a rogue who seeks profit and is ready to sacrifice anything to satisfy his needs.

A little later, with the development of capitalism, the population of Europe (we are talking about the top and advanced youth) is beginning to be used by an "ambitious person" as a compliment to someone who has achieved success in a certain field, earned money and became famous, at least within his environment.

Thus, ambition is not only a desire to achieve what others do not have, but also a degree of vanity. It turns out that in our country now no one notices that by pronouncing one category, we endow it with non-identical definitions. Hence, each of us speaks his own language, either lexically based on explanatory dictionaries, or films and TV shows that have come from the West.

An interesting study conducted by American scientists, the conclusions of which should be obvious. It's no secret that an ambitious person, trying to achieve recognition and success, often gets into stressful situations and gradually accumulates negative emotions. Due to chronic fatigue the body wears out, and, sadly, such people die faster than their peers who do not have such significant success.

But what is ambition without result? Empty sound. However, in order for the result to be, it is necessary to make at least some effort, and not just consider yourself a person with ambition. Ambitions are not vaccinated to us from birth, they appear in the process of socialization of the individual, when we establish ties, establish contacts and make progress in any area.

Thus, it turns out a vicious circle - a person who has achieved something, automatically tries to set himself big goals, since he has already taken place in a certain sphere of life.

Then ambitions take precedence and from a positive trait that stimulates us to work (labor ennobles a person), turns into a threat to the individual. The fact is that according to the results of American studies, ambitious people are less likely to have families, since they, most likely, since childhood, parents clearly and clearly set priorities in which career growth is everything.

Often, along with a rabid desire for success and money, selfishness comes, more precisely, it comes into full force. And selfishness is useful only in limited doses, so, whatever one may say, health suffers.

So what is ambition? If scientifically, then evil is universal. And to be honest, let everyone decide for himself. However, in our power to develop this quality rather to stimulate ourselves to action, rather than for arrogance and the cultivation of excessive megalomania.
