Afghan break: without guilt, guilty

Then it was called beautifully: the fulfillment of international duty. And no one in the higher spheres of power was concerned about the countless deaths of young guys and experienced officers and the fact that this mission was viewed by the progressive world and local residents as an intervention.

Breached contract

In many of the fates, the Afghan breakdown has taken place, having crippled, mutilated, or completely destroyed. The events of that war - one of the terrible pages of the history of dying totalitarianism - have often been the source and cause for the inspiration of the cinematographers of our country. The film "Afghan break" many critics regard as one of the best works that raise this topic. The action of the painting takes place during the flight of military operations: the Soviet troops are ready to return to their homeland. In one of the regiments comes Senior Lieutenant Steklov (the guy needs to "check in" in the war zone, this will help further career, that's a high-ranking dad and flew). It would seem that the war is over, what can threaten the newcomer? With the filing of the commander of the regiment Nikita Steklov, the patron Michael Bandura, the seasoned major in battle, is taking care of. To the Soviet units could freely leave foreign territory, a truce agreement is concluded. However, the dushmans do not want to retreat and ambush, which turned into a massacre for civilians, enemy fighters and for our ...

The constellation of talents

"The Afghan break" was staged in 1991 by the Leningrad director Vladimir Bortko, famous by that time for the amazingly organic adaptation of the Bulgakov's work "The Dog's Heart". To the main role of Major Bandura, he, to the surprising surprise of his compatriots, invited Michele Placido. Probably one of the reasons for such a strange choice was the super popularity of this artist in our country after the triumphal procession on the television screens of the Mafia saga "Sprut". Placido is the most inimitable commissar of Cattani for four seasons of criminal drama. Steklov was played by the son of Oleg Yankovsky (incidentally, also took part in the work on the film "Afghan Break": he dubbed the Italian) Philip. The whole constellation of popular artists is what the "Afghan break" is. Actors Alexei Serebryakov, Tatyana Dogileva, who previously shot Bortko in the "Blonde around the corner", Viktor Proskurin, Nina Ruslanova, father and son of Krasko, Mikhail Zhigalov. Plus, "migrated" later to "Streets of Broken Lights" (the first series of which was also put by Vladimir Bortko) Yuri Kuznetsov, Viktor Bychkov, Mikhail Trukhin and Anastasia Melnikova.

Everything came together

A strong cast of actors, an unfriendly story that turns the soul around (published from the pen of four authors: Alexander Chervinsky, Mikhail Leschinsky, Ada Petrova, Leonid Bogachuk), Vladimir Fedosov's wonderful camera work, Vladimir Dashkevich's shrill music, Alexander Rosenbaum's vocal. All this has come together and made the "Afghan break" if not a masterpiece, then a very worthy work of modern cinema. And although some participants in the military operations in Afghanistan criticized the picture, it should be remembered that real events and their embodiment in artistic cinema are all different things.
