Kazan: Legends and Myths about the Formation of the City
Around the history of the formation of Kazan there are many legends. However, all of them converge in one thing - Kazan is directly connected with the famous Bulgarian Khanate. In the people there is a version that on the advice of the sorcerer the Bulgars founded a defensive fortress in an exceptional place - where the boiler will boil without fire. So the place of Kazan's present location has been chosen. This is a high hill that was previously surrounded by swamps on three sides and a river on one side. Such a geography is comparable to a cauldron surrounded by fire of a fire. Perhaps, on this basis the name of the city appeared.

Millennium of Kazan
Scientists from more than twenty countries found that in the X century Kazan already existed. The official version of the city's origin is the formation of the northern defense fortress in Bulgaria. The conducted research of the Kazan Kremlin proved that the city is more than 1000 years old. Historical and cultural significance of Freedom Square
With the territory where the central square of Kazan - Freedom Square is now located, many historical events are connected. Near the present square in the distant XVIII century was the entrance to the city through the Arches Gate. At the beginning of the XIX century, on the site of Freedom Square, Pavel Esipov built a wooden theater for his serf company. From this moment until 1924 this territory was called Theater Square.
Even then it was the central place in the city. In honor of the victory in the war with Napoleon on the square in 1815, a monument to the commander of MI was erected. Kutuzov. Opposite the Freedom Square, where the theater is now. Musa Jalil, Derzhavinsky garden was located with a monument to the great political figure and cultural figure G.R. Derzhavin. The monument in the twenties of the XX century, when the square was renamed into Liberty Square, was demolished, and restored only in 2003 in the Lyadsky Garden of Kazan. The Liberty Square suffered a turning point in the history of Russia, changed its name and appearance. Today this place, without which modern Kazan does not appear.
Architectural monuments on Freedom Square
On the perimeter of the square are the most important administrative buildings for Kazan and Tatarstan. So, here are the buildings of the Constitutional Court, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Kazan Town Hall. The World Congress of Tatars is also located on Liberty Square.
There are also important educational institutions: Technical University. A.N. Tupolev, First Kazan Chess Club. For the city of Kazan, Freedom Square is the focus of the largest cultural institutions. Kazan State Conservatory is located here. N.G. Zhiganov, on the basis of which major contests are held. Famous all over the world festivals "Concordia" and "White Lilac" are held in the Big Concert Hall. S.Z. Saideshev, who is also located on Liberty Square. Opposite the square across Karl Marx street is the Theater of Opera and Ballet. M.M. Jalil, where a number of major opera and ballet festivals, competitions, reviews are held.
Freedom Square - the center of Kazan
The significance of the territory where Liberty Square is now located is great both for the city and for the whole country. This is the link between the European territory of Russia and the eastern one. The square remembers how the Pugachevites stormed Kazan, as exiles went to Siberia, as the soldiers of the Kazan militia met. Now everyone knows how to get to Freedom Square: Kazan, metro station "Tukaya Square" and walk along Pushkin street. Trolleybuses and buses run here (the "University" stop).
