Abscess of the lung: the essence and prognosis of this pathology

First of all, it is necessary to find out what kind of semantic load the phrase "abscess of the lung" carries with it. This purulent decomposition of the lung with the formation of a number of pathogenic cavities, that is, a disease in which dying of the lung tissue and the formation of abnormal spaces in which necrotic masses predominate are observed. In fact, pneumonia and lung abscess - similar diagnoses, which are a manifestation of the same pathology. But sometimes some difficulties in recognizing and treating this pathology often lead to a fatal outcome.

Today, modern medicine fights against such a disease productively, thanks to a wide range of specific antibiotics, then, as before, the lung abscess was considered a fatal diagnosis. After the first antibiotics were used in the form of sulfonamides, the clinical picture of the disease changed dramatically, and for the better, but with the advent of antibiotics from the pharmacological group of penicillins and tetracyclines, the situation improved markedly, as in most clinical pictures surgical intervention was completely ruled out.

Lung abscess has a conditional classification, which completely depends on the characteristic symptoms, the course of the disease and the choice of an alternative scheme of productive treatment. Thus, the acute form is expressed by the presence of abscesses, which are formed during 4-6 weeks, and other neoplasms are already referred to as a chronic lung abscess.

It is difficult to treat an abscess of the lung, the symptoms of which are pronounced already at an early stage of the disease. The first period of the pathology is represented by fever, sweating, chills, shortness of breath, intoxication, in addition, the patient's face differs appreciable puffiness, the temperature rises sharply, breathing is disrupted and the unbearable headache is constantly disturbed. Also, a characteristic sign is a dry cough, often with mucous sputum, and when pressing on the sternum there are sharp pains.

The second period of the disease is characterized by a constant discharge through the mouth, which causes irritation of the bronchial mucosa, aggravating the cough. In addition, the progression of the lung abscess is often accompanied by the accumulation of pus in the cavity and the thickening of its walls, which in the future can lead to the development of a chronic form of the disease. In the latter case, the abscess of the lung is expressed by a constant cough with the release of purulent masses with an unpleasant odor and an increased temperature.

But even today the diagnosis is inconvenient: an abscess of the lung, the treatment of which should be immediate. There are two ways: conservative and surgical, only the doctor must decide how this pathology will be treated. Conservative method includes antibiotic therapy, in which the main position is taken by antibiotics. It is also appropriate to introduce antibiotics directly through the bronchi with the help of a bronchoscope, which also gives its tangible results. In addition, the use of this drug allows you to first pump out purulent contents, and only then to enter the necessary medication. The presence of inflammatory foci around the cavity requires the introduction of antibiotics intramuscularly. Complex treatment also includes expectorants and general restorative therapy, where the latter includes repeated blood transfusions every 4 days, vitamins B, C and D, as well as protein nutrition.

However, we should not exclude the possibility of surgical intervention in the process of achieving final recovery. So, if conservative methods did not help the patient during a month and a half of intensive therapy, the patient is changed by treatment regimen, including operative manipulations, which give a good result and a significant chance for further recovery.
