"A small matter is better than a great idleness": the meaning of the proverb. Why is it so important to be busy

Labor - in honor, idleness - in shame. And so it was almost always. This is also expressed by the expression "A small business is better than a great idleness." Why is this and what work is useful and harmful idleness - we will understand today.

Meaning

The meaning of the proverb is reduced to a simple formula: "Better do anything than nothing." Why? Because work, even the most insignificant, has three components:

  • He drives boredom.
  • He has a purpose.
  • Work is productive.

Idleness of such components is not, because it is empty and boundless. But in addition to the above-mentioned elements of labor, there is one more aspect that needs to be discussed separately and to prove all the same why a small matter is better than a great idleness.

Labor has a perspective, but its laziness does not exist

Any, even the most insignificant thing, can live and develop, and if a person is not doing anything, then it will not bring him profit. Moreover, our time is such that some manage to earn on the most seemingly trivial things. For example, someone like him (or she) believes a great taste, and a person likes to dress people. Today such a profession is called a "stylist". But there are people who earn their living only by choosing clothes for wealthy citizens without touching the image as a whole. Of course, if a person is poor, then he simply does not have money for a personal stylist.

Poverty and wealth in this case are not at all important, but what is important is that a small business is better than a great idleness. Even if the occupation seems strange and strange to others. How to know, maybe a person in 10 or 20 years will become a trendsetter.

By the way, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates also started small. And what happened in the end? Everybody knows. And this example even managed to fill the edge. In any case, the facts can not escape.

Dale Carnegie and proverb

The books of American psychologist Dale Carnegie are widely known. They can be treated differently, but he also owns a wise idea: "The cheapest medicine for a neurosis is to be busy." Thus, it turns out: the proverb "Little business is better than a great idleness" also exists a psychological dimension. Boredom and unemployment are really dangerous. If a person does not know where to apply himself, then he gets into various bad thoughts, from which he falls into depression or other unpleasant and risky conditions. If a person is busy, then he has no time for groundless reflections, he needs to carry out the tasks set.

Therefore, labor is good not only because it provides a livelihood and fills the life of a person with content - the work also has a therapeutic meaning: it does not allow a person to go mad from thinking about, for example, the meaning of life. Why beat up all sorts of absurdities of your own head, when specific tasks are waiting for their solution? The answer is obvious.

And if a person thinks about it, he will understand: the proverb "A small business is better than a great idleness" says the same thing.
