A little about what a noun is

What is a noun? If at a Russian lesson such a question sounded, and the student does not know the answer, then it's time to sit down for morphology. Morphology is that part of the science of language that studies parts of speech and knows what a noun is. Rather, she knows everything about him.

Morphology answers this question in this way: "Nouns are all names of objects!". Objects in grammar are customarily called things and people, phenomena of nature, plants and animals, in general, everything that answers the question "who" or "what." The question "what" is answered by nonliving objects, in grammar they are called inanimate nouns. The question "who" is asking about living beings: people, animals, insects. They are animate nouns.

Nouns can be proper and common. Own names are at people, animals and birds, the truth, it is more correct to name them by nicknames. There are proper names for planets, villages, cities and countries, rivers, seas and oceans. They have also kindergartens, camps, books, magazines, movies and performances. All of them are written with a large, capital letter, and the names of magazines, books, movies are also taken in quotes, apparently for importance.

For example:

She very much goes to the name of Lida.

The whole family watched the movie Love and Doves again.

Actor Yury Vladimirovich Nikulin was shot in the film about a heroic dog named Mukhtar.

Children always admire the eclipse of the moon with delight .

We traveled along the Volga on a large ship "Dawn".

All other nouns are called generic and are written with a small, lowercase letter.

About some of them we say: "he". Or we can substitute the word "my". These nouns refer to the masculine gender. About others, we say: "she", "mine". They belong to the feminine gender. What is a neuter noun? There are such names of objects that do not apply to either the female or the masculine gender. About them we say: "it" or "mine." They belong to the middle genus.

For example, the nouns "uncle" and "man", "child" and "boy", "horse" and "bear", "table" and "kettle" - masculine. Nouns "mother" and "grandmother", "girl" and "neighbor", "pot" and "lamp", "dog" and "she-bear" are feminine. "Tree" and "wheel", "sun" and "seashore", "miracle" and "child", "taxi" and "domino" - are of the middle genus.

But there are some among them, whose kind depends on what sex they call the person at the moment.

For example: Our Yulia is a big ignoramus! (Zh.). The teacher said that Dima is an ignoramus (mr). "Ignorance" is a noun of a general kind, such nouns end in "a" or "I".

For example: Yasha, sleepyhead, you overslept again! (M.). Marina is such a sleepyhead, she is often late for the first lesson! (Zh.).

Sometimes it is not easy to determine the gender, especially if the word is of foreign origin. For example, "jellies", "relays", "coats" - the middle class, and "coffee" and "penalty" - male. But the "kohlrabi" and "avenue" are feminine. If it is difficult to determine the gender, it is better to consult the dictionary.

In the volume of one article, one can only partially answer the question "what is a noun".

This topic for several articles, especially if we recall that they vary by birth, by numbers and cases, are divided into declensions and are written according to the rules.
