9A-91 (machine): Overview

The 9A-91 is a favorite weapon of the special units of law enforcement agencies of Russia. Development is also operated by civilians as a licensed means of self-defense. The machine gained wide popularity due to its small size and high combat qualities. Despite the emergence of a whole mass of more sophisticated samples, the model continues to be used successfully to this day.

Characteristics

Automatic 9A-91, whose photo is presented in this material, is characterized by the following tactical and technical parameters:

• The length of the weapon is 600 mm with the deployed butt and 380 mm in the folded, marching position;
• The length of the trunk is 160 mm;
• Width - 45 mm;
• Weight - 2.1 kg (in the absence of cartridges in the store);
• Caliber - 9x39 mm;
• Rate of fire - from 700 to 800 rounds per minute;
• The capacity of the store is 20 rounds.

Automation

Model 9A-91 is an automatic machine that functions according to the principle of removing spent powder gases from the stem channel. Locking is performed by turning the shutter to 4 warheads. The presence of the trigger mechanism of the trigger plan makes it possible to fire single-shot and to hit targets with continuous bursts.

Fuse

The safety device in the form of an interpreter is located above the trigger guard, on the left side of the receiver. In the upgraded versions, which began to be produced in 1995, the fuse is mounted to the right. On the left side, the manufacturer began to place a bar for landing optical sighting devices. Early samples contained a muzzle brake. However, in the future, from its application, they decided to refuse.

Butt

9A-91 (automatic machine) contains a folding stock that is retracted upwards, and then moves in the front direction. Like other parts, in addition to the pistol-type handle made of plastic, the butt is made of impact-resistant steel.

In the folded position, the small automatic 9A-91 becomes extremely convenient for concealed wearing under clothing. For comfortable transportation the sample is equipped with a folding handle of the shutter.

Cartridges

The 9A-91 is equipped with an armor-piercing ammunition 9 mm caliber, specially designed for this sample. As an alternative, cheaper cartridges of the 6th caliber are used. The latter provide an effective defeat for opponents who are wearing 3rd class personal protective equipment. The impact power of the machine is sufficient to break a steel sheet 8 mm thick at a distance of up to 100 m.

Modifications

In due time the export modification of the automatic machine which was issued under mark МА-91 has been developed. The main difference was the possibility of using new armor-piercing cartridges 5,45 × 39 mm, 7,62 × 39 mm and 5,56 × 45 mm. However, no significant demand for the sample was observed. Therefore, pretty soon it was decided to remove the modification from series production.

9A-91 - automatic, which became the prototype for the development of a silent sniper rifle brand VSK-94. The latter differs folding stock of the skeleton plan, the presence of a functional attachment for the installation of optical sights and the possibility of using a muffler.

Equipment

During the operation of the sample, a removable silencer is permissible. Initially, the developers provided for the possibility of installing a grenade launcher of the GP-95 series. However, after carrying out special tests the manufacturer decided to refuse such a complete set, because the machine was not strong enough and too easy for these purposes.

Benefits

Despite the relatively modest dimensions, the 9A-91 is an automatic machine that acts as a real workhorse. The sample is particularly compact, has a streamlined shape.

In the 90s of the last century the model was widely used by domestic users for concealed wearing, used by special services to seize and counteract armed groups located in living quarters and cars.

Due to the insignificant weight and modest thickness of the body 9A-91 (automatic) it is convenient to carry it behind the waist, in the inner pocket of outer clothing, on the loop over the shoulder. In the folded state, the butt does not increase the dimensions of the sample. The machine is easily brought into combat condition from the marching position and folds back.

The model is characterized by the highest reliability. Effective shooting can be carried out, regardless of the degree of contamination of the weapon.

Finally

Despite the availability of more sophisticated small-size automatic devices of imported production, 9A-91 still consists in the armament of special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and detachments of internal troops. Moreover, the model is actively used by state special forces of the armed forces of Belarus and Mongolia, when it is necessary to conduct operations to seize objects and release hostages.
