Makarov's pistol is a legend weapon

The Makarov Pistol is a legendary weapon, marked by a lot of literary works and feature films. Its incredible popularity was largely contributed by reliability, reliability and simplicity of design. Makarov's pistol is a self-loading hand-held rifle that is designed to defeat the enemy primarily at short distances.

Designed and constructed by the ingenious Soviet gunsmith NF Makarov, PM has been almost a half-century of personal weapons for the officers of the Soviet and later Russian Armed Forces, the Interior Ministry and internal troops. The Makarov pistol device is based on the use of the construction of a longitudinal sliding sliding shutter and a stationary barrel. The barrel is locked due to the weight of the bolt and the force of the return spring. Such a simple structural solution to the genius provides amazing fire accuracy, which can not be said for similar weapons with various modifications of the movable barrel.

However, there is one small nuance here. The practical use of such an elegant structural solution is limited by the weight of the bolt. In other words, such a device of the pistol mechanism is advisable only for ammunition, the dimensions of which do not exceed the critical mark of 9 × 18 millimeters. Just this size of cartridges is firing a Makarov pistol.

Another unique structural feature of the PM is the use of a free drummer that does not have a spring mechanism, which must perform a protective function, while holding the firing pin in the rear end position. In theory, this does not exclude the possibility of a spontaneous shot. But the fact is that the impact mechanism of this unique weapon does not have enough mass for involuntary triggering. What only highlights the genius of the creation of the great armourer.

The Makarov pistol differs with its exceptional simplicity, elegance of construction and a minimum of moving parts. Many of its details are assigned to several functions, which is also the know-how of the Soviet weapon-engineering idea. For example, the gate delay in parallel fulfills the function of reflection of the sleeves. And the fighting spring is also part of the snap-in mechanism of the store.

An interesting fact is that the TTX of the Makarov pistol is much higher than that of the Glock pistol, which was created many years later with the use of completely different technologies. It was designed as a counterweight to the PM, and the whole emphasis in it was on reliability and simplicity. But the "Makarov" still has fewer details than the "Glock". With proper operation PM is practically trouble-free and very durable.

The standard Makarov shop contains eight cartridges. After the last ammunition is consumed, a special delay mechanism locks the bolt in its extreme rear position, from which it can be easily removed by means of a lever located on the body, or by pulling the slide frame back. Any of these manipulations, if the weapon is already equipped with a cage, performs the function of sending the cartridge into the chamber. And PM is again on the fighting platoon.
