Yury Yakovlev, "The Knight of Vasya": a summary

In this article, we will outline the short content of "Knight Vasya" - a beautiful work for children belonging to the pen of the Soviet writer Yuri Yakovlev. This story is included in the school curriculum, and the children are already acquainted with it in grade 5.

Briefly about the author and the work

Yury Yakovlev (Khovkin - his real name) was born in Leningrad in the distant 1922. All his life he devoted to literature, journalism and theater. Most often, the writer selected schoolchildren and pioneers by describing their life and studies. Situations and emotional experiences of the characters are similar to modern children, which makes the author's works relevant in our time.

A vivid example of such books is the story "The Knight of Vasya", a brief summary of which will be presented below. The work raises the problems of courage, loyalty to their principles, valor, etc. Yakovlev participated in the Great Patriotic War, so these topics were close to him and understandable.

The work was written almost half a century ago - in 1967. Despite this, it continues to arouse the interest of children, although some words may seem incomprehensible to them.

Yuri Yakovlev, "Knight Vasya": a brief summary. Main character

The main character, a boy named Vasya, among the classmates is known as a mattress. This nickname he received for his awkwardness, sluggishness and sluggishness. It concerned everything. If he wrote a control, then he never had enough time. If he drank tea, he always left a puddle around his cup.

Vasya waddled around, touching everything around him. He always looked sleepy. Everything fell from the hands of the "mattress", nothing happened. He was wearing tight clothes, which made it seem even thicker. The people around were sure that blame for all gluttony. But Vasya ate very little and generally did not get any pleasure from this process. Everything betrayed in him that he was a mattress, even his voice was expressionless and deaf.

Knight's Heart

But the hero of Yakovlev is not so simple in "The Knight of Vasya". The summary will serve as an excellent proof of this. Under his thick, ugly shell, "the noble heart of a knight was beating." In his dreams Vasilissa saw himself dressed in shining armor and on a white horse. He saved the weak and the oppressed. The hero imagined himself to be an unnamed knight, since the book characters usually have sonorous names - Rodrigo, Ivanhoe, in his there was nothing remarkable.

In fantasies he was flexible, slim, dexterous and dexterous. All its shortcomings disappeared. But if you only went to the mirror, how it brought Vasya back to reality. In those moments the boy began to hate himself because of his appearance.

Real happiness

The summary of "Knight Vasya" draws a character whose inner world does not correspond to appearance. And reminds of this not only the mirror, but also the mother. Hearing his son stomping along the corridor, she called him "an elephant in a porcelain shop." Friends also did not understand and did not support his dreams. One day one of them said that they were not getting on such thick armor. All these people had no idea how much they hurt Washuu. In his spare time the boy went to the museum. Here he was interested only in one hall, where weapons hung on the walls, and knightly armor was placed in the corners. Secretly from the employees, he touched the steel armor and checked how well the weapon was sharpened. Vasya imagined that real knights were encased in armor, with whom he was friends or enemies. At this point the boy was really happy.

Ordinary

The summary of "Knight Vasya" makes it clear how serious children's problems raise the work. The protagonist with an insult asks why nature so cruelly laughed at him, giving the noble heart such a pathetic body. Vasya dreamed of exploits, and his life was everyday and monotonous. All his days were similar: he woke up, washed himself, and ate breakfast. Mom always hurried him. Then he descended heavily down the stairs, and all the neighbors knew who was coming. He went to school to the second call, threw a heavy briefcase next to the desk and heaved heavily on the bench.

He did all this with the imperturbable calmness of one who has become accustomed to monotony and does not expect changes. In class, he never talked and sat quietly, but teachers often made comments to him and called him to the blackboard. Solving the problem with chalk in his hand, he was so exhausted and thoughtful about the decisions that the teachers could not stand and sent him back to his place. At the desk he again returned to his dreams and drew armor and weapons in his notebooks.

Destiny of a loser

The problems of the little hero-dreamer will not only be understandable to the same schoolchildren, but also help others understand their strange friends, look at such peers in a different way. To explain that in a fat, slow-moving boy a brave heart can live, Yakovlev wanted. "Knight Vasya" (a brief summary is presented in this article) is a wonderful work that teaches children to evaluate others according to their actions, and not in appearance.

Let's return to our story. In the physical education classes, Vasya was a real laughing stock, he could not perform any exercises. He was not lucky in everything. Even he could not read the poem he had been learning for a week.

Gradually, Vasya resigned himself to the fact that he was a loser. Although awareness of this was angry with him. But the boy blamed only himself, and not others, as it usually happens.

This feat

The summary of the story "Knight Vasya" describes not only the sad everyday life of the hero, but also the moment when he was able to perform his feat and feel like a real hero.

Somehow it was frosty late in the night, and in the morning the river was covered with ice. He was still thin and unreliable, but he strongly attracted children. Of course, several brave souls immediately went to the river. The ice cracked and crouched under their feet, but is it really capable of stopping the boys ?! Vasya was at that time on the beach and heard someone shout. The hero immediately quickened his pace and ran to the place where the voices came from. Nearby was Dimka Kovalev, who ran along the shore and shouted "Tonet." Vasya asked about what was happening, to which Dima snapped and answered why he was standing and doing nothing. The protagonist did not enter into a verbal skirmish, but looked at the river. There, an unfamiliar first-class boy was already under the water. Then the "mattress" stepped on the ice, which was bent, but did not crack. Dima from the shore began to give advice. When Vasya grabbed the boy's hand, the ice began to break off. But the hero managed to pull the baby out of the water.

Decoupling

Dimka sent Vasya home, as he wet his feet, and led the rescued first-graders home. When the "mattress" returned, my mother asked about what had happened. Vasya replied that he had got his feet wet. At first the boy wanted to tell all to his mother, but he wanted to sleep, so he went to his room. He lay down and at that moment thought that if he had armor on it, the ice would not have held him. With this thought, Vasya fell asleep.

The next day he came to class as usual, but there was no one there - everyone was on the line. Vasya went to the assembly hall, where the children were already built. Then the director spoke and said that yesterday Dima Kovalev committed a heroic deed and rescued a first-grader who fell through the ice. Then the senior counselor spoke and read the letters from the mother of the rescued boy.

Dimka all began to congratulate. Vasya at first wanted to intervene and say that it was he who saved the child. But then he realized how much he would attract attention to himself and decided not to interfere.

After the line Vasya returned to the classroom, squeezed into his seat and, taking a pen, began drawing knights, swords and armor. Thus ends the story of Yakovlev "The Knight of Vasya". Our hero remained unnoticed, but made a real feat and saved someone else's life, and this is much more important than rewards and honors.
