An incredibly bright story was recognized as immoral, but time has put everything in its place, and now this sincere picture touches the depths of the soul of modern viewers.

How did it all start?

It should be noted that the film by Ilya Fraz was made based on the story of Galina Shcherbakova. She wrote several works about which no one knew, since no publisher wanted to print them. One day, hearing a story about how a high school student climbed to his beloved on a drainpipe and broke off from her, she realized that she knew what the future book would be about.

So the novel was born, which was christened by the modern version of Shakespeare's tragedy about Juliet and Romeo (and even the names of lovers are consonant - Roman and Julia). The work was published in the magazine "Youth". However, in order to see the story, the author had to change the final of the work at the editor's request, where the main character perishes.

Focus on a romantically elevated relationship

The instantly popular story interested the venerable Fraz, who had by then released 13 films and confessed his love at first sight to this little work. The director did not really want his future picture to be somehow connected with the Shakespearean tragedy, and so he renamed the main character to Katya, as if knowing that his film would be about contemporary youth. Not all went smoothly, but still the director proceeds in Moscow to film the lyric drama of love under the title "You never dreamed".

The actors remembered that a lot of castings had taken place, in which the writer did not take part, but Fraz showed her all the samples, without hiding anything. A lyrically-minded director with a special attitude took an emphasis on the more exalted relations of young people, compared with the original source.

The long search for Roman

The role of the protagonist claimed thousands of boys, but none suited the demanding master. The director was in despair, because he was looking for an actor who could convey the character of Roman, who appears to be a real rationalist who does not believe in love. An interesting character lives by reason, not by the heart, and complains that everyone "became like each other".

Quite by chance, a very few known 16-year-old Nikita Mikhailovsky, who appeared in episodic roles, was involved in the tests. The director saw his gaze and realized that this boy could show strong feelings. The schoolboy fascinated Fraz and the whole crew with his spontaneity and was immediately confirmed for the role of Roman in the tape "You never dreamed". Actors, behind whom had already been successful projects in the cinema, warmly received the boy with a difficult fate: his parents divorced, and a few years ago his mother died, and Nikita was very painfully experiencing an irreparable loss.

A student who played a schoolgirl

For the role of the main heroine who moved with her family to a new apartment and started to study at the same school as Roman, Tatyana Aksyuta, a 23-year-old graduate of a theater high school, became famous after the film was released on wide screens. This was the first serious role of the girl, and she did not like the falling popularity.

The letters that came to the student did not please her husband, and she herself admitted that she did not watch the romantic melodrama "You never dreamed".

Counting her heroine blinded by love, Fedoseyeva-Shukshina was incredibly happy about the fact that schoolchildren remain alive, because in the end of the story, Roman perishes. People's artist periodically withdrew in serials and brings up grandchildren.

Tatyana Aksyuta (Golubyatnikova), whose husband holds a high post on the First Channel, gave birth to her daughter Polina and continued to act in films, but her unusual appearance and miniature played a cruel joke with her. All the directors wanted to see the actress in the role of little girls and did not offer her anything new. At some point, she realized that she was tired of her role.

Gradually, her career went into decline, and from the former popularity there was no trace left. However, Tatiana has never regretted that the superstar did not come out of her: "I'm happy for other actresses who got wonderful roles. I'm probably lazy, and I do not have any vanity. " After Aksyuta left the cinematograph, she found her vocation in pedagogy and now she conducts a theatrical circle, teaching the basics of the acting profession of children.

A short but full of creative life

Nikita Mikhailovsky, as they say, woke up famous. Purposeful young man, who had a million army of fans, entered the acting department and continued to act in films. It was a real talent, able to write poetry, fairy tales and draw a lot. His personal life was developing successfully, like a career, and soon a happy newlywed daughter was born.

The young man with burning eyes captured not only the play in the cinema and the theater, but also the painting, thanks to which Nikita gets acquainted with the artist, who became his new companion and the last love. In 1990, a thunder broke - the actor was diagnosed with leukemia, and this diagnosis sounded like a verdict. Mikhailovsky's widow recalled that the money for the bone marrow transplantation process was collected by the whole world, and the Russian emigrants from the UK even turned to Margaret Thatcher for help . However, despite all the efforts, the young man could not be saved. Nikita died one year later, at the age of 27, when new growth prospects opened before him.

"Donor of Light," as his family and friends called him, took Roman's pseudonym in his later years as a tribute to a famous film. He asked his wife to believe that everything would be fine: "My hero survived, and I will live."
