Where did they shoot "10 Little Indians"? The history of the film "10 Little Indians"

In 1939 Agatha Christie published a novel, which she later called her best work. Many readers agree with it. Proof of this - the general circulation of the book. In the world sold about one hundred million copies.

Stanislav Govorukhin was never a fan of the creativity of the detective queen. The exception was precisely this novel, and that's why the Soviet director and filmed it in 1987. It's about the book and the film "10 Little Indians". Where did you make this film? How did the cinematographers manage to recreate on the screen the mysterious atmosphere inherent in the books of an English writer?

Negro Island

The plot of the work of Christie brings terror and keeps you in suspense. The writer pondered for a long time, and in the end she liked what happened. However, later she had to make significant adjustments. As a result of improvements, the ending became less tragic, and the name is more politically correct. "And there was no one else" - this is the name of the edited version of the novel.

Govorukhin used the original version of the work of Christie. Perhaps, that is why his film is one of the best adaptations of the writer.

Let's recall the plot. Ten people who do not have anything in common with each other, come to the Negro Island. They are housed in a mansion. In the room of each of their guests on the wall hangs a sign with an amusing counting, the content of which subsequently horrifies the inhabitants of the castle. Each of them dies strictly according to the script at first glance innocuous poem.

The Negro island is the fruit of the fantasy of Agatha Christie. Her novel has been screened many times. Before the British directors there was no serious problem as to where to shoot "10 Little Indians". England is rich in medieval castles, which can serve as a wonderful backdrop of the gloomy history invented by Agatha Christie. It was not so easy to decide the question of where to shoot "10 Little Indians" to domestic filmmakers.

Govorukhin was easy to pick up the actors. When writing the script, he tried as little as possible to deviate from the original. The director created two films on the works of classics of world literature, not counting "10 Little Indians". "Where to shoot an adventure movie?" - a question that this director could hardly confuse. Filming "Robinson Crusoe" was conducted on the island of Shikotan. Pictures "In search of Captain Grant" - in Bulgaria and Crimea. But where is the film "10 Little Indians" made? In Crimea? In Bulgaria? Or, perhaps, in the pavilions of "Mosfilm"?

Landscape

The viewer is in constant tension when watching a film by Stanislav Govorukhin. The noise of the waves, the cloudy sky, the rocky landscape of the island - all this adds to the already grim plot of mystery. At the same time, there is no feeling of sham and artificiality. Where did Govorukhin shoot "10 Little Indians"? What kind of rocky landscape can be seen in one of the worst films of Soviet cinema? An attentive spectator who has visited at least once in the Crimea will easily answer the question of where the film "10 Little Indians" was filmed. The adaptation of the famous novel by Agatha Christie was created in the Swallow's Nest.

Mr. Owen's mansion was an architectural and historical monument, which is located on a forty-foot cliff of Aurorina rock. It is worth devoting the history of this attraction, attracting many tourists every year, a few words.

swallow's Nest

After the Russian-Turkish war, a wooden structure was erected on the site of this historical monument. About how it looked, you can learn thanks to the canvases of such painters as Aivazovsky, Bogolyubov, Lagorio. The structure was built for the Russian general. The second owner was a doctor, of which there was little information.

Its current appearance "Swallow's Nest" has acquired thanks to Steingel - a Russian oilman who fell in love with the romantic Crimean landscapes. On Aurorin's rock, he purchased a summer residence, and then built a castle in the spirit of the Middle Ages. The old building was demolished in 1912.

Not only Govorukhin's film was created in these picturesque places. There were shooting films "Mio, my Mio," "Hamlet, the 21st century," "Blue Bird," "The Journey of the Pan of Blot," "The First Strike." But let's return to Govorukhin's picture.

Shooting

The work process was not easy. For filming, part of the building was closed with decorations. But the plywood shields constantly tore the gusts of the wind. As a result, they had to be reinforced several times.

Filming of many episodes took place in the Vorontsov Palace. Some in Yalta. The director and performer of the role of Vera Kleitorn managed to combine this work with filming in the film "Assa". This film was released in the same 1987.

Some episodes of "10 Little Indians" were shot against the backdrop of a masterly made model of the Negro Island.

Actors

Alexander Kaidanovsky, who played Lombard, initially did not want to star in this film. But he gave his consent solely because of the money. It is noteworthy that his hero in one of the scenes admits that he came to the island for the sake of profit. The picture was played by outstanding Soviet actors: T. Drubich, A. Abdulov, A. Zharkov, L. Maksakova and others. The role of the judge, who restored justice with such cruel methods, as is known, was performed by Vladimir Zeldin.
