Wise statements of great people. Sayings of wise men

From the cradle the children are introduced to wisdom, giving it the image of a bizarre grandfather with a gray beard and mustache, similar to a kind of old man, from whom the answers to all questions are not hidden. From his mouth sound wise statements that are not immediately clear, but very deep. Such an image is painted with fairy tales, such a performance had in childhood, probably everyone. And this is not surprising, because wisdom is often associated with the age and experience with which it comes. Consider an interesting wise parable about an old man.

Parable of the wise old man and wanderers

In one locality lived a sage, who loved to spend time near the gates of the city, where his inhabitants came to ask advice. In those days it was customary to turn to the wise men who solve riddles.

Once a small group of people approached this city. The one that was ahead turned to the elder: "Sage, you live in this city and have great experience." Please, tell me, what kind of people live in this city: good or bad? " The shrewd look of the gray-haired man studied the travelers for a while, after which he asked: "And what kind of people did you meet before?" Then the man, not thinking for a long time, began to enumerate: "Evil, cruel, proud, haughty ..." The sage did not let him finish the thought, saying: "Then you have nothing to do in our city, because here there live the same people." Hearing these words, the procession went on.

After a while other people came to the same city. Their clothes and appearance were very different from the previous group of travelers. The wise man called the strangers: "What are you looking for, strangers?" The answer was: "We want to find a city where we can find friends and coziness." Then the sage asked them the same question: "And what kind of people did you meet in other cities?" One of the men, the one who was in charge, answered: "Kind, loving, sympathetic ..." Then the old man's face lit up with a smile: "Welcome to our city, here you will find such people."

Wise statements of great people

People have always aspired to wisdom. Sayings of wise people speak about this. And you, most likely, liked the parable, which told about the wanderers and the wise man. Could you draw a lesson from this fictional story? As one man said two thousand years ago, "The righteousness of wisdom is confirmed by its deeds."

Everyone can be wise, regardless of age. However, wisdom can not be found in philosophy, which tries to get to the bottom of truth through conjectures and fabrications. True wisdom, rather, is practical and lends itself to logical perception. In the whole history of mankind there lived on the earth many people who, based on life experience, made interesting conclusions. Let us consider only some wise statements of great people. One of those who meditated on wisdom and its significance was King Solomon.

The Wisdom of King Solomon

Here are some of the famous statements of the most wise and great king of Israel - Solomon, which can be found in the Book of Proverbs:

  • "Happy is he who has discovered wisdom, and a man who acquires discernment, for to gain wisdom is better than collecting silver, and profits from it more than gold will bring."
  • "Never be wise in your own eyes."
  • "My son, take care of wisdom that can be applied in practice, and your thinking abilities." If you do this, then they will be life for you and like jewels on your neck. "

It is said that this prudent king of the ancient people possessed the wisdom given to him by God himself. The biblical Book of Proverbs contains dozens of wise thoughts expressed by him. However, even some of the sayings given above reveal to us the value of the spiritual in comparison with the material.

Wise words of Leo Tolstoy

L.N. Tolstoy became popular not only because of his writing talent, but also by skillfully revealing the psychology of man, arguing about the relationship between people. Once he wrote: "If you do something, do it well. If you can not or do not want to do well, do not do it at all." This idea perfectly reflects the essence of people who are used to doing many things superficially.

Sayings of wise people and reflections on them show that those who are able to utter wisdom are excellent psychologists. And who is better than the author of the aphorism can understand the true purpose of what he is putting into practice?

Other statements about knowledge and understanding

"A wiser than an ignorant sage is a stranger to wisdom than an ignoramus."
(William Shakespeare).

"Only one deity can have all-embracing wisdom, and it is only human nature to strive for it" (Pythagoras).

"All philosophers are sages in their sentiments and fools in their behavior" (Benjamin Franklin).

"Only that mind is the real mind, which proves its validity in the act of cognition, and only that eye that really sees is the real eye" (F. Engels).

"Wisdom in all worldly affairs, it seems to me, is not to learn what needs to be done, but to know what to do before, and what after" (Leo Tolstoy).

However, there is one point that should be taken into account when searching for the wise statements of the greats in various sources. It will be useful to know. It must be remembered that wise statements do not always belong to those to whom they are usually credited. In order not to be misled, it is necessary to check the authorship of certain words with the help of authoritative sources and directories.

Equilibrium is the main requirement of wisdom

In this article, we were able to consider only a few grains of true wisdom. Other poems, parables, wise statements and riddles can be found in autobiographies and records, which as a heritage were left to us. The main thing is to be balanced, after all, as one wise man once said: "There will be no end to the compilation of a huge number of books." All of them are vivid evidence not only of the scale of human wisdom, but also of human errors in great abundance. It is better to remain a good person always and everywhere, and "to treat people as we would like them to do to us."
