"Windows 10": is it worth it to install? Operating system for personal computers

Now many users of computer systems PC are increasingly faced with the problem of "Windows 10". Whether it is worth installing it as the main operating system, everyone decides. At least Microsoft experts said that it will become a real revolution in the world of computer technology. But how true is this?

Official release

If anyone does not know, officially the new "operating system" was introduced to the world for a long time, but officially it became available for download and installation only on July 29, 2015.

What is most interesting, the developer corporation has gone to the most unprecedented step in the history of its existence, making the "top ten" free. Among other things, it is possible not only to install the system, but also to update it, which was previously unavailable at all, that this company is unusual in general. Agree, the cost of the same "seven" earlier in Russia, for example, was almost 4 thousand rubles, but today it is reduced to 1090 rubles. Most likely, Microsoft, focusing on free-of-charge, tried to popularize not only the new OS, but also some of its other developments included in the main list of supported devices (in particular, this Xbox 360 console).

The process of installing or upgrading the system

So, "Microsoft Windows 10" became available for installation. Here it is necessary to take into account the fact that initially users were asked to register on the official Microsoft website, get an account, update the existing operating system, but not below the "Vista", and then queue for the installation rights.

At the same time, a clever solution is the presence on the same official site of a specialized utility called Media Creation Tool for those users who do not want to wait. The utility "weighs" 36 MB, and after its launch, the system is installed over the existing one. In this case, even during the installation process, you can work with open documents and applications.

Here, however, it is worth considering several points. Firstly, when faced with the "Windows 10" 64-bit version, you need to pay attention to the fact that the previous system, which will be installed or updated, had the same bit capacity. This is due to the file system. That is, you can put a 64-bit system on top of a 32-bit system, but on the contrary it will not work. In other words, FAT32 over NTFS without formatting the hard drive is not installed.

In addition, a few incomprehensible when installing "Windows 10" on the computer and the issue of free disk space. According to the developers themselves, for the actual installation it takes a bit more than 3.5 GB, but, as practice shows, you will have to use a disk partition with at least 9 GB. This is due only to the fact that the installation package not only copies its own installation files, but also gives the possibility of rolling back to the previous version. Roughly speaking, if the "ten" is installed on top of the same "seven", it is to Windows 7 as the primary platform that you can always rollback (provided that the installation files are saved). If the system used to clean the system disk and remove all the installation components, it will not be possible to return to the previous version.

As for the activation of the system, in principle, the essence of this problem is not to introduce a license code, as it was before, but only to regular registration on the developer's site and creating a Microsoft account.

But there are problems with it too. After the installation of "Windos 10", user feedback indicates that it is not so easy to delete an entry, change or delete a logon password. Of course, you can turn off its request during normal boot and when you exit from sleep mode. As stated by the support service itself, a post-application entry can be deleted after 60 days. But this is also not the case (checked by many users, and the answer is unambiguous).

The fact is that when you press the button, the menu itself is called, in which absolutely all the elements are sorted alphabetically, which looks somewhat unusual, and the secondary menu of the Metro interface, which is present to the right of the main one.

But users of computer systems with touchscreen support can switch between normal and tablet mode quite simply.

However, immediately on the menu shows that the system is aimed at supporting the Xbox. In the main menu there is even a special section. In addition, the desktop "Windows 10" is absolutely no different from the already familiar interface, which will be discussed a little later. But in general, without going into the technical aspects of the functioning of the "tens", contrary to popular opinion, it is worth mentioning. That the advantages of the system is much more than minuses.

System requirements

If we talk about Microsoft Windows 10 from the point of view of the requirements for the "iron" components, they are surprisingly low enough. So, for example, for normal operation of the system, the recommended parameters are the use of a minimum of 2-core processor and 2 GB of RAM, which by modern standards is very small. Agree, because even many smartphones of the highest category today can be equipped with even 8-core processors in combination with 3-6 GB "RAM".

Interface

At first glance at "Windows 10" in Russian, nothing special, except the "Start" menu, does not flash in the eye.

Separately it is worth noting that in the new system by default, developers completely abandoned the use of volumetric elements. This "plane" at first a little dumbfounded (especially those who are used to, for example, Windows XP or the Aero interface for the "seven"), but then after a few days of using it you quickly get used to it.

In the Quick Launch toolbar, the Explorer icon appeared, the task view command and the search tool, not to mention the Internet browser icon, which, by the way, underwent quite a lot of changes.

New Internet browser

In the "top ten", which many users can especially please, the developers refused to use Internet Explorer by default for surfing the World Wide Web. The new browser was named Edge and became more convenient, although opening the homepage with the recommended tabs takes a long time.

But this does not mean that the "Explorer" itself is not here. It can be found in the program section or in the same Explorer. But now it's not about that. When testing the same Edge, which is present in Windows 10, reviews of users indicate that the new browser is much faster. And this, by the way, is confirmed by official data provided by independent experts who conducted the testing of this software. The fact is that Edge managed to bypass all the known for today performance systems and outstripped even such grants as Opera, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, not counting the remaining developments.

The only thing that causes legitimate skepticism is an enhanced relationship with antiviruses. The trouble is that the browser itself can block downloads from file-sharing networks such as Turbobit or from peer-to-peer networks, and, more simply, from torrent trackers. In this case, even disabling protection in a full-time antivirus does not help. The browser simply "rests" on the fact that this source is potentially unsafe. As you already know, you can get around such limitations quite simply by including the download in another program.

Special abilities

An interesting innovation was the presence of an intelligent assistant Cortana. Not everyone uses it, because most users who clearly understand that the activation of "Windows 10" is not required, can face the fact that most new applications or add-ons can be found in a special "Store". In this respect, it is somewhat similar to services like the Play Market (Google Play) or the App Store.

As it is already clear, for the additional components presented in this service, you will have to pay, and sometimes even a "round" amount.

Separately, it is worth considering the issue of updates. Initially, it was claimed that for the "dozen" updates will not come out, they say, the system is impeccable. As time has shown, the programs for Windows 10 work correctly not always, all the more the same security system suffers. But in most cases this applies only to .NET Framework updates and the installed office suite.

And to the settings of updates themselves is not so easy. The previous component in the form of "Windows Update" in the "Control Panel" does not work. Here you should use the properties of the computer, where on the left side there is a hyperlink to go to the desired menu. What's most sad, even with automatic updating enabled (which used to work without problems), it does not work all the time - you have to agree that the updates were found, and then reboot the system. And updates will be installed only after that.

Software Compatibility

Continue to consider "Winds 10". Should I install such a system in terms of applications and their work? Yes, indeed, as it was stated, when switching from one system to another (meaning the update), the initially present programs and applications work without problems. But here the installation of new software often may not work. First, the drawback is that the system itself does not always correctly initialize the user's administrative rights, and, secondly, it pays too much attention to checking the digital signatures of the certificates.

That is why when you run an installer or even a program, the system first issues queries such as "Trust this manufacturer or application?", "Allow me to make changes there and then?", Etc. It goes without saying that Such a notification can be turned off, but it's not about that now.

Antivirus software and optimizers

With respect to antiviruses and programs that make it possible to speed up the system, the "dozen" has become much tougher. The reason is not even in the firewall. Here it is easy to make any application on the list of exceptions to labor is not.

The most important problem lies in the fact that the new OS simply does not allow you to install the appropriate software, ignoring the installer's request. For example, when trying to install a program for Windows 10 (like Advanced System Care, Glary Utilities of the latest version or AVG PC Tune Up) on the bare system downloaded in the beginning of August, only the last utility was normally installed.
