Why to enter extracurricular reading is necessary from the first year of schooling

It is no secret that in recent decades, more precisely, after the collapse of the Union and the radical restructuring of not only the state systems in every former Soviet republic, but also the educational system, the introduction of tuition on a fee basis, has fallen in the most serious way both the level of teaching and learning, and prestige Schools, secondary and higher educational institutions. Particularly depressing were the relations of our citizens with the book. From the most reading country in the world, we are gradually becoming the most boring and illiterate. There is an amazing paradox: modern teenagers with knowledge talk about the pros and cons of the latest models of mobile phones, with their eyes closed they can gather from the spare parts a heaped system-man from the PC, but at the same time they do not know who Alexei Tolstoy is (and others are also Leo Nikolaevich!), Did not read "Onegin" or "Dead Souls", about the content of "War and Peace" have a very vague idea and confuse the Patriotic War of the 12th year with the Great Patriotic War.

The role of extracurricular reading in the life of pupils of junior school level

Acquaintance with the book in children of primary school age occurs in different ways. The children learn the basics of reading as early as in the preparatory group of the kindergarten, someone is accustomed to it at home. As a result, the pupil of the first class is sufficiently prepared to communicate not only with the textbook (the book for reading), but also for extracurricular reading.

What will give the child extra-curricular reading? First of all, it will help to form an interested lover of the book from it. Develop reading skills. To teach yourself how to use books, extract the necessary information from them and get the knowledge embedded in them. Thus, extracurricular reading from the first stages of school life should help the self-development of a small person, the transformation of a growing personality from the object of life and circumstances into an active subject of activity. We must not forget that, first of all, it is the book that makes the souls work, forming from the next representative of the biological species "homo sapiens".

Independently pick up the book comes to mind is not every first-graders. Because on the extracurricular reading children should be well motivated by the teacher - on the one hand, and his family, relatives - on the other. The main goal of motivation is the development of cognitive interest in the schoolchildren. In this connection, the teacher is obliged to closely cooperate with the child's family in order to firmly and unobtrusively manage it, accustoming gradually to independence.

Extra-curricular reading can not be haphazard, neglected. To him, as to any kind of intellectual activity, certain criteria are applied.

Criterias of choice

  • The selected works should correspond to the age and level of development of the child.
  • The content of the works should be presented in an entertaining form and be provided with bright, high-quality illustrations.
  • In the extracurricular reading of the first grade, the teacher must include the so-called "toy books" (we must not forget that the beginning of the studies for first-graders is based on a game basis).
  • The material recommended by the teacher should be diverse in genres and authors: riddles, fairy tales, poems about nature and homeland, stories about animals and people, about native land. First-graders should understand that the world of books is rich, and that they will always be able to find in this wealth something "most-most" interesting for themselves.

Some recommendations

The school program is serious and full not only in the upper grades, but also in the younger ones. As a rule, it is not always enough to assimilate the clock, especially in complex topics. And because lessons of extracurricular reading sometimes get under additional mathematics, a letter or other subject. Do this - make a serious methodological mistake! After all, it is in the lessons of extra-curricular children that they expand their horizons, going beyond the scope of the program. They not only need to be conducted - it is necessary to teach the children to keep readers' diaries, compile testimonials, even draw illustrations for the most vivid episodes. Thus, the pupils will be brought up a sensitive, attentive, thoughtful attitude to the word, observation, memory and true love for the book.
