Why there is a delay in menstruation?

Very often women face such a phenomenon as delay in menstruation, i.e. The absence of a monthly period of more than 5 days from the date of their due date. Many immediately begin to worry, but in order to panic, you first need to determine precisely what causes this phenomenon. It is possible that this is only a minor malfunction that does not require medical intervention.

Our task is to understand the main causes that cause a lack of monthly:

  1. The main factor that can be caused by a delay in menstruation is pregnancy, including ectopic pregnancy. The fact is that the main sign of the occurred fertilization is just amenorrhea (stopping menstruation). Amenorrhea is the maximum delay of menstruation, which lasts more than half a year (it is observed, as a rule, during pregnancy).

If a woman has reason to suspect that she is carrying a child, you should conduct a pregnancy test, which is sold at any pharmacy, and then contact the doctor for advice. You can immediately visit a gynecologist, go through the examination and get an answer to the question. There are cases that pregnancy tests are mistaken, so it's better not to delay the visit to a specialist.

  1. Another reason why the delay in menstruation occurs from time to time, there may be a period of puberty. At this time, when the hormonal background is changing, malfunctions of the menstrual cycle are completely permissible. As a rule, the period of their possible occurrence is the first few years after the appearance of the first monthly. If such violations are observed for a longer period, you need to seek advice from the endocrinologist.
  2. The delay in menstruation can occur because of the onset of the anovulatory cycle, which happens to many women a couple of times a year. Typically, these cycles are repeated regularly in the same period and do not require medical intervention.
  3. One of the frequent causes of delay in menstruation is a nervous overstrain (stress). This case is no longer a physiological norm, but is classed as pathological phenomena. The delay in menstruation occurs, because in a stressful situation, an active hormone prolactin is produced, which blocks ovulation. It is this hormone that is produced when a woman is breastfeeding, so during the lactation period, the monthly hormone is also absent. As a rule, nervous overstrain causes a similar reaction in people who have heightened emotional sensitivity and tend to dramatize what is happening around.
  4. Observance of an extreme diet or increased physical exertion. As a rule, the girl, trying to lose weight, uses a variety of methods, thereby causing a decrease in the level of estrogen production. This hormone, in order to be synthesized in the body, you need a fatty layer. As practice shows, the restoration of the menstrual cycle in this case is impossible without the intervention of the endocrinologist.
  5. Obesity. Just like exhaustion, increased body weight becomes an obstacle to the production of estrogen. It was said above that its synthesis is possible only in the presence of adipose tissue, but its excess leads to the accumulation of this hormone, as a result of which it turns into androgen. Developing hyperandrogenism, which leads to violations of the menstrual cycle and problems with ovulation.
  6. Diseases of the reproductive system (tumors, follicular ovarian cyst , polycystic and scleropolyakistosis). All these diseases disrupt the hormonal balance and require immediate medical intervention. The doctor should prescribe a thorough diagnosis and proper treatment. Otherwise, such violations can lead to infertility.
