Why do the veins appear on the leg?

Problems with the veins of the lower limbs are a real calamity for many people of both sexes, although women are prone to diseases of the venous leg system four times more often than men. Varicosity is a chronic progressive disease in which there is a malfunction in the venous valves. As a result, the blood flow is disrupted, the volume of venous blood in the legs increases, the pressure in the subcutaneous vessels rises, the veins on the leg are inflated, their walls stretch and lose elasticity.

Causes of varicose veins:

  • Genetic factor. In people whose relatives suffer from varicose veins, the risk of this disease is much higher.
  • Belonging to the female sex. Women suffer from varicose veins much more often than men. This is due to the intake of hormones, the effect of progesterone and estrogen on the elasticity of blood vessels, hormonal changes during pregnancy and the onset of menopause. In pregnancy, varicosity is caused not only by hormonal causes, but also by mechanical ones - an enlarged uterus exerts pressure on the abdominal veins and disrupts the outflow of blood. Multiple pregnancies increase the likelihood of the disease.
  • Age. Aging of the body, wear and tear of all its organs and systems is one of the reasons for the development of varicose veins.
  • Physical exercise. Provoke the onset of the disease any effort that increases intra-abdominal pressure: constant exercise, especially power, lifting weights, intense physical work.
  • Injuries. Varicosity can develop as a result of permanent traumatization of the legs in sports and in the workplace.
  • Working conditions. The risk group includes people whose profession is associated with long standing in a standing or sitting position: hairdressers, sellers, dentists, programmers, drivers, accountants and others. Poor effect on the veins pose leg on foot and leg by foot.
  • Sedentary lifestyle. The venous system does not like statics, so the veins on the leg are more likely to appear in people who are inactive, preferring to spend long periods of time sitting at a computer or watching TV.
  • Chronic diseases. Diseases of the respiratory system, liver, heart failure, phlebitis, tumors in the abdominal cavity, constipation, and, also, the lack of routine and vitamin C leads to weakening of the walls of the vessels.
  • Body mass. Excess weight exerts a heavy load on the legs, increases pressure in the abdominal region, which leads to the appearance of varicose veins.
  • Tight clothes and shoes with high heels. Wearing corsets and other crushing clothes, constant walking on high heels adversely affects the veins on the leg, and contributes to the development of the disease.
  • Heat exposure. To buy varicose veins, amateurs take risks in a sauna, sunbathe in the sun, lie down in a hot bath. Hot weather in summer always provokes an exacerbation of the disease.

Varicosity begins with the appearance of a capillary mesh and blue veins on the legs, first in the form of small tubercles. At first, these symptoms do not cause pain, being only a cosmetic defect. Later, swelling occurs, more often in hot weather. First edema occurs rarely and quickly pass by themselves. Then the legs swell more and more, and not only in the ankles, but also in the shin area and above. Swelling intensifies toward evening and falls off after sleep. Legs start to get tired quickly, hum, they burst. There are new nodes, veins on the legs hurt and more bulge, there is burning, convulsions. The skin on the ankles and lower legs becomes denser and acquires a reddish-brownish hue. The veins form "grape clusters" on the lower leg and thigh.

Varicosity can lead to various complications: thrombophlebitis, trophic ulcers, vein thrombosis, eczema, dermatitis.

Although varicosity is considered an incurable disease, it can be successfully managed if you consult a doctor when the first signs appear. The most common method of diagnosis is ultrasound of blood vessels. In the early stages of the disease, conservative treatment is performed. It consists of taking medications that tone up the vascular system. These are tablets and gels that strengthen the walls of the veins, dilute the blood, relieve inflammation, fatigue, swelling and pain. Excellent compression in the fight against diseases of the veins on the legs is compression underwear: tights, stockings, knee socks. Special knitwear will not relieve the disease, but it will help to normalize the blood flow, relieve from raspiraniya, fatigue, swelling, will make the legs easy. Wearing compression linen is especially effective for long trips and for air travel, when the legs are long in an uncomfortable position.

Of great importance in the treatment of varicose veins is nutrition, day regimen, proper care of the feet, exclusion of harmful influences.

It is recommended to eat more vegetables, fruits, vegetable protein, fish. You should give up fatty, fried, spicy, salty and carbohydrate food. It is necessary to get rid of excess weight and constipation.

With varicose is important the regime of the day, normalized physical activity, rejection of bad habits. Lack of sleep badly affects the veins on the leg, so you need to fully rest and early to go to bed. It is useful to do walking, swimming, cycling.

Special care for your feet should be an integral part of life. It is required to wear comfortable shoes with a heel no higher than 5 cm, try to rest your feet, raising them above the level of the head, daily pour your feet with cold water and rub with gel or ointment.

If you contact the doctor in time and then constantly conduct medical and preventive measures, then there is a chance to stop the development of the disease.

In the advanced stages of varicose veins, the only effective treatment is an operation in which the affected veins are removed.

Preventing venous leg diseases should be dealt with from a young age. Doing sports, eating well, doing special exercises and wearing preventive knitwear with sedentary work and a long stay on your feet, proper rest and sleep will prevent the onset or development of varicose veins.
