Why are children born with Down's syndrome? There is no exact answer to the question

In 1866, an English doctor, John Down, described the disease, which later received his name. Later it was determined that this is not a disease, but a syndrome, that is, persistent changes. This was done in 1959 by the French scientist-geneticist Jerome Lejeune.

What is Down Syndrome? This is the appearance of an extra chromosome in the DNA. If in the norm of chromosomes 46, then in this case there are 47 of them, and the 21st chromosome is not double, but triple. These are genetic changes. Why children are born with Down syndrome, is still unknown. That is, the reasons themselves are clear, but that's why periodically the chromosomes begin to mutate, no one can say. The prerequisites that lead to such a mutation are also not identified. Such a child can be born to any parents. It's like a lottery ticket.

Features of the manifestation of Down syndrome is a characteristic appearance: children are short, with short legs and hands, with thick fingers, large body, face of Mongoloid type. In people who have this syndrome, there are violations of the endocrine glands, especially the thyroid gland. They also have physical and mental underdevelopment of varying degrees of severity.

By and large, it's useless to ask why children with Down's syndrome are born. We all come into the world with these or other features or irregularities. For all the history of mankind, four thousand generations have been replaced. Therefore, what gene will "fire" today, or which feature will manifest itself, can not be predicted. We need to accept this as a reality.

It is necessary not to wonder why children with Down's syndrome are born, but to look closely at them. And then you can see that these are just wonderful kids. They are practically all, with rare exceptions, very friendly, trusting, unpretentious, rarely aggressive, although they can sometimes show passive stubbornness. Many of them, despite the lag in physical development, are very adroit, and therefore can be successful in sports. These children are easily manageable, always responding to a request for help. Yes, we must admit that most of them are significantly behind in mental development, they will not be able to pass the USE and the institute will not finish . But they do a good job simple, monotonous work, they can become irreplaceable helpers in the family or even perform unskilled or semi-skilled labor assignments.

All those who are directly faced with this problem, especially parents, remember: if Down's syndrome is detected, treatment is not prescribed, it simply does not exist. The disease differs from the syndrome, that the disease is a condition caused by external or internal causes, and the syndrome is the persistent changes that have occurred at the genetic level. They are not amenable to treatment, they can only be slightly adjusted to improve the quality of human life. Sometimes there are announcements that are going to cure Down's syndrome. Do not believe such promises. This is a trivial pumping out of money and a thirst for profit.

If the trouble has come, do not tear your hair and ask the question: "Why are children born with Down syndrome, and how to cure it?". Just have to live, adapting to new circumstances, properly educating the child. And soon you can just stop paying attention to the fact that this is a special child. He will be the most loved and wonderful.
