The Monk Martyr Alexander (Chervyakov)

Maria Afanasyevna Chervyakova was born in Kursk in 1873. Her father held one of the posts in the Nobility meeting of the city. Precise information about where and when she was tonsured into a nun did not survive. But it is known that during the revolution in the mass destruction of churches she wore a schema and took tonsure with the name of Alexander in honor of Prince Alexander Nevsky.

The nun settled in the village of Fili near Moscow (since 1935 it became part of the capital). In the house she always had a lot of people. They were novices, priests returning from exile, and others suffering. Alexandra did not refuse to help anyone. Almost all the means that the believers left her, the nun sent to the needy, she herself followed her strict vow.

In 1937, Alexander was arrested. She was accused of spreading anti-Soviet utterances and terrorist sentiments. In the same year on October 13 she was shot at a shooting range in Butovo and was buried in a common grave. In 2000, the nun of Alexander was ranked among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

Every year on October 13, Alexandra celebrates the name day. The patron saint of the name prays for them and helps in the life journey.
