One of the relics of Russia is the icon of Fedorovskaya, the Mother of God

One of the shrines, revered in the Russian Orthodox Church, is located in the city of Kostroma - the icon of Fedorovskaya Mother of God. It is kept in the Epiphany-Anastasinsky Monastery, which rises on the Epiphany Street of the city. According to the legend, this image was written by the holy Evangelist Luke. How and when this icon came to Russia, remains a mystery to this day. The first mention of it dates back to the 12th century. At this time she was already in the chapel near the town of Gorodets and was considered a miracle worker.

How the icon helps

The prayer of Fedorov's Icon of the Mother of God helps those who ask for her image of a happy marriage, about peace and understanding in an already existing family. Especially often asked before the icon about the birth of a child. There is much evidence of those couples who for years could not have children. Doctors put many women diagnosed as "infertility." But the prayer before the icon was heard, and the Virgin gave many happiness, making them parents. In addition, the icon is prayed by women who wear their future child under their heart. They ask for a successful pregnancy, for mild birth, for health for their children.

Miracles associated with the icon of Fedorov

This shrine has a rich history that is associated with miraculous events and phenomena. One of the first miracles occurred in the 12th century, when a Mongol-Tatar horde approached Kostroma, where such a shrine was kept, like the icon of the Fedorovskaya Mother of God. The city was practically unprotected, since the prince had only a small squad. The outcome of the battle, it would seem, was predetermined in advance. In desperation, having lost the hope to save his city, the prince ordered before the army to bear the Fedorov icon and pray to all, calling God's mother to defense. And then, in a flash, a bright light came from the icon, which blinded and burned the Tatars. The invaders fled, away from the Kostroma land. Thus the city was saved. At the place where this phenomenon occurred, a chapel was later built, which can be seen at the present time. Later, people saw other miraculous phenomena. So, the temple where this image was located burned twice. During the fire, the icon rose unscathed above the flame and prevented him from transferring to houses, thus protecting the city from fire.

The Fedorovskaya Mother of God displayed her miraculous power in a more modern period. Childless couples who for a long time could not become parents make a pilgrimage to Kostroma to pray before the icon and ask for the birth of a child. The list of the lucky ones, who after long years of childlessness became parents, having previously made a pilgrimage to the icon of Fedorov, is replenished annually. There are other stories that tell about the healing of physical illnesses. There are so many of them that it is simply impossible to describe everything.

The History of the Fedorov Icon of the Mother of God

There are several legends telling about the appearance of the Fedorov icon of the Mother of God. According to the first legend, the image was written for Alexander Nevsky in 1239 on the day of his wedding with the Polotsk princess Paraskeva Friday.

But there is also a more common legend, which says that the Icon of the Mother of God was created by the order of Andrei Bogolyubsky in 1164. For a long time the image was in a small chapel Gorodets. After this settlement was burnt, the icon disappeared. For a long time this icon was not mentioned anywhere, until the middle of the 13th century.

During this period, a miraculous phenomenon occurred in Kostroma. The young prince Vasiliy Yaroslavovich saw during the hunt a picture of the Virgin, dangling in the air, over the tree. She was immediately transferred with honors to the church of the Great Martyr Fyodor Stratilat, who was in Kostroma. It is assumed that after this event the icon began to be called Fedorovskaya.
