Only a few dozen years ago, the microphone connected to the computer seemed to be something incredible. To record "real digital" sound, to perpetuate their "one-two-three ... check" on CD-ROM - it was cool and stylish. True, not everyone is available. At least because there were few computer microphones in free sale, and the banal reworking of the old Soviet type with a new type of connector did not always bring the desired results. Such craftsmen not only among their friends raised the question of why the microphone fonit, but even sometimes they turned to real gurus of sound recording. In our time the situation is quite the opposite. Without a device that converts air vibrations into electrical signals, a modern computer is hard to imagine. Voice chat in many games, Skype, a budget solution for karaoke and even, perhaps, the recording of the song of the future talented singer - the list of areas where sound recording is necessary is huge. But, as they say, it's still there - the phonet microphone as often as before, demanding a solution to this problem. Fortunately, there is more information now and it is generally available.

What does "fonite microphone" mean? As a rule, behind these words there is a phenomenon in which unwanted components of the spectrum are present in the recorded (transmitted) sound. That is, discrepancy between the recorded and reproduced sounds is observed. Recall that the ideal recording option involves the exact conversion of air vibrations into a signal. You can even compare it to photography, not images, but sounds.

If the microphone is fonet, it is not necessarily the reason for it, so a simple replacement with a new one can not bring the desired result. It is important to determine exactly what distortion does. And there are several such "suspects".

Perhaps the easiest way to narrow the search is to listen carefully to the record. Typically, the cause of the background is a poor quality cable, in which the manufacturer decided to save on braiding. This is a kind of "shirt" under the external insulation around the cable, thanks to which the tips (we read the topic "Electrical induction") generate currents not in the veins, but in this layer, where they drain to the body and ground. Thus, if the microphone is fonet, then the cable should be checked. However, this, of course, will not give a 100% guarantee of solving the problem, especially if there is a working electric appliance nearby. Conclusion: we place the cable so that it passes far from the instruments and does not lie in the bay on the system unit.

Sometimes a quality microphone does not work well enough.

It's hard to believe, but it happens. The thing is that the electrical resistance of the device itself and the sound card must be coordinated. If this is not done, only the replacement will help.

Of course, do not forget that the probable cause may be a bad contact in the connector / plug, microphone or broken cable cores.

You can try to adjust the microphone. To do this, click the right mouse button on the speaker icon (the lower right corner of the desktop), select "Recorders", find the settings for the microphone. Here it is necessary to reduce the sensitivity (slider down) and remove the check mark. Also (theoretically) the replacement of the sound card driver with a newer / older version can help.
