What should be a sieve for sifting flour?

When baking bakery products, there are no trifles. A good baker knows that some products must be prepared beforehand. Therefore, in addition to the main equipment, it should always have a sieve for flour sifting. Such a simple device ultimately helps to influence the quality of the finished product.

Useful thing

When it comes to baking, it's worth paying attention to every little thing. For example, flour, which is the main raw material for its production, must first pass several stages of processing. One of the most important stages in its preparation is sieving. This operation helps:

  • Get rid of unwanted mechanical impurities;
  • Improve the condition of the crumb, making it gentle and lush.

A similar procedure will help the sieve to sift flour.

This is the simplest kitchen utensils, which the mistresses used in ancient times. For many centuries, the device has changed its appearance several times. But, in fact, it remains the same. Any sieve for sifting flour is a casing with a grate reinforced on it, through which the product must pass. Such a seemingly simple design helps to solve rather serious questions. Depending on the initial material of the body, the sieve for sifting the flour may be metallic, plastic or wooden, and as a rule, a plastic or hair net is used as a grating. During operation, the device must be in motion so that the product does not cake and does not clog the cells. On an industrial scale, the processes of rotation, rocking and vibration are used for this. And at home for such purposes, as a rule, usual shaking is used.

A simple mechanism

For household use in hardware stores, the simplest device is sold - a sieve-mug for sifting flour. This simple mechanism helps not only to speed up the work, but also makes it more efficient.

Outwardly, the object resembles a usual metal mug, in which a screen is inserted instead of the bottom. This bowl has a handle, consisting of two sections, with a spring built into it. The mechanism of the device is very simple. First the product falls asleep inside. Then, by pressing the handle, a screen is set in motion. This causes the flour, passing through the small cells, to spill out. Inside there are foreign objects or caked lumps, whose presence in the test is undesirable. Such a device has a number of significant advantages:

  • It is very compact and not as cumbersome as a conventional sieve.
  • The mug has a pretty stylish design, and it's nice to hold in your hands.
  • Due to the limited impact area, the workplace always remains clean.
  • Ease of use.

In addition, this mug can be used for processing not only flour, but also cocoa or powdered sugar.

Eco-friendly product

Previously, the hostess did not have such a variety. They knew only one sieve for sifting the flour - wooden. Nevertheless, this option is still used in many homes. The object is an ordinary wooden hoop, in the lower part of which a grid with small cells is fixed.

For the sifting of the product, the mistress has to make multiple translational movements, moving the device from side to side. As a result, small particles pass freely, falling down. And only unnecessary inclusions remain on the lattice surface. The main advantage of this device is its environmental friendliness. Made from natural materials, it does not have a harmful effect on the product being processed. But this sieve also has its negative sides. Basically, it concerns its dimensions. Usually the diameter of the body of the device is from 20 to 35 centimeters. Therefore, when working with it, the smallest particles of the product scatter in different directions, polluting the surrounding surface of the desktop. In other respects, such a variant is in no way inferior to other specimens.

Popular model

Some housewives prefer a metal sieve for sifting flour. The photo allows to better consider such a model. Outwardly, this sieve resembles a bucket, on the rim of which is fixed a handle, sometimes equipped with a plastic insert. A distinctive feature of this device is its shape. The basis of the design is a metal mesh, which has a special groove. It significantly increases the efficiency of screening, since the process runs from almost all sides.

In addition, the side cells prevent caking of the product, freeing the approach to fresh air. This also increases its oxygen saturation. The metal mesh is easy to clean and also dries quickly. This is very convenient if you suddenly need an additional portion of flour for work. With the help of a handle, such a scoop is very easy to hold. This reduces the laboriousness of the work and makes it possible to accelerate it considerably.

Modern version

At home, a manual sieve is usually used to sift flour. In addition to the already described options, it can be completely made of plastic. And many mistresses choose this option, considering it as practical as possible. I must say that such a preference can be considered quite justified. For example, if you compare such a device with a wooden one, you can notice one significant advantage. The plastic sieve can be easily washed and wiped dry in a matter of seconds. After that it is ready to work again. The wooden model after the wet treatment will dry much longer. It will take some time before it can be used again. In addition, small particles of the product can be retained in the microcracks of the rim. Over time, this leads to the fact that the wooden kitchen utensils get an unpleasant musty smell, which is partially transferred to a new portion of fresh product.

In principle, any model can find both positive and negative sides. Therefore, the final choice should make the owner herself.
