What is the duplicity of beggars and politicians?

Two-handers are traditionally called those who from the two conflicting parties do not want to choose any, seeking to maintain good relations with both enemies. Such "neutrality" often seems to be a win-win, but in reality it sometimes turns against the cunning. The victorious party will certainly find out the fact of collaborationism, after which a punishment will follow, which by severity exceeds the measures taken even for the defeated enemy. So what is double-dealing, and how does it differ from banal betrayal?

Begging beggars

Beggars beggars from a long time were a special community, a caste, within which there were rules, ethics and other norms of behavior. Violators of unwritten laws were obstructed, sometimes punishments were severe. In particular, it was forbidden to stand out from the crowd asking for both hands. So did some beggars in the hope of double prey. It is in this deplorable social phenomenon that an answer should be sought to the question of what double-dealing is in the original sense. A similar situation is described in the novel "Petersburg Slums" by writer V. Krestovsky. Later this insulting moniker spread to those beggars who, manifesting religious unprincipledness, managed to "earn" a coinage of coins near mosques, synagogues, churches, kirches and orthodox churches. Confession is not important for them, they would give money.

What is double-dealing in a political sense?

Lenin in his works on the national question draws a parallel between miserable universals and liberal politicians, finding similarities in their behavior. One hand, these leaders were drawn to the bright ideals of democracy, and openly, without concealing, but the second, already secretly, greeted the tsarist satraps. The further development of Marxism on the territory of the former Russian empire clearly demonstrated all the charms of people's democracy. Lenin's successor, JV Stalin, had his own idea of what double-dealing was, this word denoted nedonositelstvo even to the closest relatives and friends. Such an offense (and inactivity from the legal point of view, too, can be regarded as a criminal act) was punished severely - by prison, camps or exile. The word "double-dealer" was the brand that branded all party members disliked by the regime, and sometimes ordinary citizens, who fell under the ax of repression.

Household double-dealing

But not only beggars and politicians in the course of this concept. Ordinary citizens also know what double-dealing means. "And ours, and yours," "submissively calves two mothers sucks," and "as you say, so are you also right" - such sayings and phrases clearly define the domestic conformism, expressing the desire to please everyone with a complete lack of desire to have their own position in Emerging life conflicts. In some cases, double-dealing is behavior on the verge of betrayal, especially if the assurances of eternal friendship and devotion end with the support of the opposite party at the time of its triumph. Here we already apply another term - duplicity. However, the numbers "two" sometimes do not suffice, numerals of a higher order are required.
