Banana palm - exotic beauty at home
Banana palm is a very beautiful indoor perennial. The false stem (stalk) of this plant is formed from so-called leaf petioles. During growth, the leaves twist together, forming such an unusual trunk. Banana palm is unique in that, with proper care, one flower of this plant can be in the flowering state until three to four months. Blossoming palm will add exotic notes to any interior, reminding of hot countries and summer holidays.
Grow this plant at home is not as difficult as it might seem to a beginner florist. The main thing is to know some of the subtleties of caring for a banana tree.
Those who decided to buy a young plant of banana palm, first of all, you need to find for him a warm and well-lit place. If the plans of the florist include getting fruits from the banana palm, you need to take care of additional lighting, without which fruiting is unlikely to be possible. The plant should be lit no less than twelve hours a day. The temperature of the air should not fall below twenty-five degrees Celsius. A slight drop in temperature during the night is permissible, but not more than five degrees.
If you plan to grow a banana tree solely for decoration - it will perfectly withstand the average room temperature, and it will not need additional lighting, and the blossom of a banana palm tree will last long enough. With proper care, the plant every seven or eight days pleases the owners with a beautiful new leaf. This rapid development makes the banana tree truly unique.
Banana palms are heat-loving plants, and if the temperature of the air in the room where they are kept falls below sixteen degrees, this will have a very negative effect on the growth and development of green pets.
Watering a banana palm requires a special approach: in summer the plant needs frequent and abundant watering, and in winter - as the soil dries in the pot. Watering should be carried out only with standing water, moreover, such water should be defended for at least ten to twelve hours. Also, you need to make sure that the water for irrigation is not cold. The best option is water, which is three to five degrees warmer than room temperature.
If the room is too dry air, then the banana palm sharply slows down the development, while the foliage on the plant can fade and begin to dry out at the edges. Therefore, you should carefully monitor the humidity in the room where the plant is located.
A banana palm tree very much likes various water procedures, such as spraying, wiping leaves with a damp cloth and even a real shower. If you regularly arrange palm bathing, then it will please owners with juicy green leaves and a beautiful appearance.
There is another way, using which you can greatly facilitate the care of the palm. The method consists in placing the pot with the plant on a large pallet and overlaying it with expanded clay, pebbles or wet moss - that is, any material that retains moisture. Such an approach will allow the palm to create almost ideal conditions for growth and development.
