History

In the 30-ies of the XX century Kostroma artists of the local Youth Theater on personal enthusiasm played a puppet fairy tale "Lisichka the Sister" before the children. The date of the first performance - 07.11.1936 - was the true birthday of the puppet theater. At first he did not have a permanent place. Performances took place on stage in the House of Pioneers, the House of Teachers. Only in 1946 the theater was allocated an old building, which once housed the people's reading room to them. The building has its own history. It was built in the distant 1896 by means of indifferent citizens. Charitable contributions were made not only by Kostroma, but also by Petersburgers with Muscovites. Originally there was a folk reading room, since 1899 - a folk theater, in the 1930s. The building belonged to the Theater of Young Spectators, a little later than the new "master" Kostroma saw here - a puppet theater.

In the early 1980's. The theater announced a competition for the best reconstruction project of the building. The competition was won by the architect I. Dashevsky, who turned the former reading-room into a fairy-tale castle.
