What is edging, or How to sew a slanting bake?

In order to understand how to work with a decorative diagonal ribbon, I propose to familiarize with it more closely, namely, to understand what an oblique beam is and where it is applied.

The processing of the oblique bake is a very simple and relatively easy method of finishing straight sections, as well as the necks and armholes of the product. In appearance - it's a ribbon of fabric, cut out oblique and pressed into slices. Such beki can be purchased in the shops of fabrics and accessories or cut out yourself from a suitable fabric, and the fabric can be taken both as a dressing and knitted. Have you ever paid attention to T-shirts and how their throat and armhole are treated ? This is an excellent example of the application of a skew-beam. However, it is used not only in underwear. It is widely used in the treatment of curtains. Quite often, such processing can be found on thin blouses and tunics with a round neck, where the oblique ribbon is cut from the same fabric as the thing itself, and neatly tuned around the cutout. And this is not all the options where you can use this kind of decoration. So, with the scope and appearance of this tape, we learned, let's now consider in detail how to sew a slanting bake to the product.

There are two options for processing sections of products with oblique ribbon: the first with the overlap of a single seam, the second - a phased one. The first option is suitable for processing straight slices, such as curtains or napkins, but if the slices are curly, then it is better to use a phased sewing.

How to sew an oblique bake with a single seam applied to a straight section of tissue? This is quite simple: we cut the cut into a folded ribbon and carefully line the line, making sure that the needle grabs the two edges of the beika (from the face and from the inside).

The second option is more laborious, but, in my opinion, it is more reliable, since it will be necessary to sew the oblique bake with the overlap of two seams, which means it will hold the edge more tightly. First, unfold the iron band, put it face to the tissue cut and spread it along the fold. After this, the tape is wrapped on the other side and the second line is laid a few millimeters from the edge.

If you do not know how to sew a knitted skirt, the second way is exactly what you need, it is ideal for tightly stretching fabric. And that the second line came out as neat as possible, then it is recommended to fix the wrapped bake with tailor's pins. As an option for knitting, you can use the overlock. In this case, folded in half the tape is sewn to the cut, while the bake is slightly stretched. After the seam is stripped, wrapping it on the main fabric, and lay on this seam a line from the front side of the product. This way you can process slices on a shirt or top.

If it is a blouse or a top made of flowing fabric, then you can take a ready satin bake or cut out a diagonal ribbon made of the same material as the thing. Now let's look at how to sew the oblique bake as a neckline:

  1. We measure the cutout and, according to this dimension, take the oblique ribbon, unfold and we rub the edges to close the tape in a circle.
  2. From the front side of the fabric to the neckline, apply the unfolded beika face down and bend a line through the fold.
  3. In several places, cut the notch to the seam and turn the side to the underside, smooth and pin the pins.
  4. We inject the eye at the same distance from the edge of the neck.

Using these simple trimming techniques, you will be able to cope not only with the edging of potholes and plaids, but also with more complex things.
