What is bulimia? Symptoms, causes and treatment

Bulimia is considered a nervous disease. This is a mental disorder, in which the sick person feels an increased appetite and absorbs food in huge quantities. And after an attack of gluttony, hurry to get rid of the eaten by artificial inducing of vomiting, often while the person tries to fight with hated pounds with the help of laxatives or enema.

A huge desire to lose weight - this is how bulimia manifests, the symptoms at first do not cause fear, but the disorder is gradually gaining momentum. A person starts to think only about food. How much he ate, how much kilogram and even gram added or, conversely, lost. There is a constant counting of caloric content of products, all thoughts and conversations of the patient are reduced to only one - to eating and losing weight.

People who are overcome by bulimia, the symptoms of the disease as if do not notice. They do not see any problems and are genuinely sincerely puzzled if relatives and friends begin to talk about the abnormality of their behavior. The patient starts to break, thinks that nobody understands him, often it leads to constant depression and stress. Bulimia-Symptoms:

- a very strong passion for various kinds of diets and calorie foods;

- Vomiting immediately after eating;

- taking diuretics and enemas;

- Strong physical activity:

- termination of menstrual cycle or severe malfunction;

- Strong weight loss or, conversely, weight gain;

- change the appearance. Broken nails, dull dropping hair, poor skin condition, pallor;

- permanent depressive state.

Who is affected by bulimia?

Symptoms are more common in women, this is about 90% of all cases. Among men, in almost all cases, bulimia is diagnosed in homosexuals. The highest level of nervous breakdown among young women and adolescent girls.

The disease covers absolutely all segments of the population. The most susceptible to bulimia are people whose professional activities are connected with public life. Actors, models, journalists, TV presenters, for these people the appearance plays a huge role, and the desire to improve oneself can lead to this kind of frustration.

Causes

Signs of bulimia often begin in people whose self-esteem is understated. Psychologists and psychotherapists see the root of the disease in insecurity and dislike for themselves. Often these people lack support, somebody's warmth and understanding. In some cases, bulimia is manifested due to unrequited love or abandoned women and girls. They begin to see the problem in their appearance and are struggling to achieve the ideal, choosing the path to excellence through weight loss.

How to treat bulimia?

The first thing - appealing for help to a psychologist. Cases when the patient was self-aware of his disease and was able to overcome it without recourse to professional assistance are rare. The task of the psychologist is to reconcile the person with himself, to get rid of non-existent complexes and to develop love for oneself. It is very important that a person feels important, as this is the main problem that caused bulimia.

Of course, only psychological help is indispensable. The effects of bulimia require medical treatment, including antidepressants. The body is exhausted due to the constant shortage of nutrients, diseases of the internal organs are not excluded.

This is an extremely dangerous disorder that can lead to irreversible consequences.
