What is Bavarian masonry?

Brick is one of the most common building materials. Since its inception, people have begun to erect capital structures on a household scale. In this case, standard masonry was commonly used, which assumed the entry of the brick of the upper row into half the size of the lower one.

This method of erecting walls is considered the most reliable and practical, since with a minimum amount of material it provides good strength and stability. However, this type of clutch does not look very good from an aesthetic point of view, so it is constantly being refined and decorated.

One of the simplest ways to embellish the appearance of a brick wall is the figured cutting of the seams. Some masters also try to give a kind of beauty with the help of non-standard laying of stone, but the most effective way to allocate a particular structure involves using a method such as Bavarian masonry.

It involves the use of bricks of different colors. At the same time, the number of shades can reach seven or even nine. They are stacked in two different ways. In the first of them, stones of different colors are used in a chaotic order, while a kind of abstraction is obtained. The second method assumes that the Bavarian masonry should display a certain pattern or ornament. To do this, the master must have before him a certain sketch, which will have to be repeated by successively installing a brick of a certain color.

The main difficulty encountered in this way of erecting walls is that the materials for the Bavarian masonry have to be fully laid out in the workplace in accordance with their color. This greatly reduces the working space, making the entire process very difficult. At the same time, it is still necessary to observe a certain sequence of laying, to withstand the parameters of the wall, to monitor the quality and to mix the solution.

In some cases, Bavarian masonry is used together with figured cutting of seams and tinting them in a certain color. Thus, a good drawing is obtained, which looks very good from the side and has a rather good advantage over the usual brickwork.

It is worth noting that such a type of construction was not popular until the certain time in the post-Soviet space.

This is due to the fact that the Bavarian masonry requires the presence not only of material of different colors, which at that time it was almost impossible to get, but the bricks must be strictly of a certain size.

Therefore, even today it is very problematic to acquire such building material, which makes the Bavarian clutch quite rare and even exotic. Domestic designers and builders use it usually for finishing the facades of office buildings or shops, while in Europe even ordinary houses are made from it. Especially it is popular in Bavaria, because of what it got its name.
