What horror stories are the most terrible?

Many of us like horror movies. Some of them prefer to look to tickle their nerves. Few people know that horror movies as a genre arose long before the advent of cinema and television. At the end of the eighteenth century, at the height of the revolution in Paris, there were performances with "ghosts", ghosts and monstrous faces. The then superstitious Frenchmen were horrified, but still they went to look at this "devil". And the solution was easier than many thought: in an abandoned chapel, several artists were served by special mobile screens depicting all evil spirits. This performance was called "Phantasmagoria".

At the end of the eighteenth century, literature emerged as a gothic novel. It was in this style were written works Like "Frankenstein", "Dracula" and other horror movies. The most terrible dreams seemed to come true soon after two Frenchmen-the Lumiere brothers-invented a special apparatus that had become the ancestor of the modern television. In 1896, the screen version of the novel "The Devil's Castle" shocked thousands of people. The acting persons were demons and skeletons. Increasingly, people began to go to the cinema to watch horror films. The most terrible roles in the early twentieth century were given to the then famous actor Lon Chaney. He became a kind of veteran of the genre. Due to the fact that he often had to be removed in a mask or in a makeup, he was nicknamed "a man with a thousand faces."

In the thirties, this genre of cinematography received even more attention and popularity of the public. In 1922 there was a film "Nosferatu", which was watched millions of people. It first appears the image of Dracula. Since that time, the directors have increasingly filmed a movie about the cruel Wallachian gentleman Vlad Tepes, who became famous not only as a strong and warlike ruler, but also as a man with sophisticated sadistic inclinations. In total, there are just over sixty films in which Dracula appears in the main or secondary role. It should also be said about the creation of director Joe Chappel "The Dark Lord", where the figure of Vlad the Sorcerer is shown more or less realistically from the historical point of view.

But we considered only one character of horror films. Many of us, watching TV, saw much pohlesche Earplug. What horror stories are the most terrible? Of course, every spectator has his own answer to this question. However, perhaps someone believes that he has not yet seen the worst horrors. The list proposed here, just includes such films.

"Shining" (1980). The protagonist decides to settle in the hotel with his family. But something starts to negatively affect his psyche. In the end, this turns into a tragedy for his family and the hero himself. Something in the hotel, to put it mildly, is not so.

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974). The tool mentioned in the title of the film, someone cuts not a tree, but people.

"1408" (2007) The main character writes books, the purpose of which is to dissuade the readers from the existence of all the supernatural. He is disappointed in religion, he is an ardent atheist. Going to write another "horror", he settles in the infamous hotel room. And this makes a fatal mistake.

"Turning the wrong way" (2003). A group of young people lost their way in the forest. Trying to get out, they stumble upon the remains of dead people. And soon they are in trouble.

"Saw 5" (2005). The plot of the film is intriguing and unpredictable. One of the followers of the famous maniac teaches a terrible lesson to five strangers.

Mirrors (2008). The policeman is deprived of his service because of his unbalance. He struggles to find at least some work. What starts to happen next, like a nightmare, and its end is clearly not happy.

It seems that the rapid scientific and technological progress affects horror stories. The scariest films of the twenties are no longer frightening anyone, except for young children. Today we, perhaps, will calmly watch what our ancestors trembled in the cinemas. And the horror that was seen ten years ago is not the worst. The horrors of 2012 are still "relevant" for us. Among the best of them - "Obsessed", "ATM", "Possession", "Silent Hill 2".
