We grow marjoram. What it is?

Many mariners grow marjoram at the cottage. What it is? This is a perennial herb, used both as a seasoning and for medicinal purposes. It is common in southern countries, as it is rather thermophilic. However, if you want, you can get it from us, if you germinate the seeds in the greenhouse, protect from the wind and constantly weed. When marjoram blossoms, its shoots with flowers are cut and dried. Use it for food and for the treatment of certain diseases.

Many people do not know what properties marjoram has. What it is? It is not only a beautiful flower, but also a fragrant seasoning, as well as a medicinal plant. The greens of marjoram contains tannins, ascorbic acid, rutin and pectins. However, most of all it is valued for essential oil, the aroma of which is similar to cardamom, a little bit of mint and chamomile. It tastes like thyme and even replaces pepper.

Very much appreciated marjoram in cooking, and not only for its aroma. It has the property of improving digestion and helping in the assimilation of proteins and fats. Therefore, it has long been used as a seasoning for meat, poultry, fries or bean dishes. Marjoram not only aromatizes food, but also makes the products more tender and easily digestible.

This is an indispensable additive in the manufacture of sausages, canning of cucumbers and tomatoes. Marjoram can replace pepper and perfectly combined with garlic, basil and rosemary. Long since it was added to wine, sauces and fried potatoes. Now this plant is the main component of the seasoning of hops-suneli, and in Italy sauces for spaghetti are prepared only with it.

In cooking, fresh marjoram leaves and dried powder are used. It is added to salads, compotes and kvass. If you insist vinegar on its leaves, you will get a fragrant dressing for salads, and the oil, in which a few days lay the leaves of marjoram, it is very good to apply for savoring pizza. This seasoning is loved all over the world, and in many countries without it there is not a single dish.

Marjoram is also used to treat many diseases. What is this in folk medicine? Even in ancient Greece it was used to give courage to soldiers, and also treated nervous disorders. In modern folk medicine, marjoram is used as an antiseptic and antiscorbutic agent. They treat headaches, insomnia and depression.

Marjoram improves digestion, treats constipation, flatulence and colic, is used for diabetes and asthma. It has a warming effect, so it helps with rheumatism, sprains and dislocations. The anti-inflammatory property of marjoram helps to heal wounds, reduces bleeding gums and heals abscesses.

Most often this plant is used as a decoction. Tea with marjoram removes head and menstrual pain, soothes and improves digestion. A plant powder is often used instead of salt. However, you can prepare from it ointment, mixed with wine alcohol and butter. This tool is used even for the treatment of infants from the common cold and flatulence.

Not on many kitchen gardens now you can see marjoram. What is it that interests gardeners. Cultivate this fragrant beautiful plant - and you will always be healthy, and your food is delicious.
