Was diagnosed with basal cell? What is this pathology?
Basaloma, which is a basal cell carcinoma of the skin, at first glance seems quite a non-dangerous disease. Neoplasm appears, as a rule, on the face. A person takes basaloma for a regular pimple that pops up on the bridge of the nose, forehead, neck or wings of the nose. However, this disease is very dangerous. With untimely treatment, severe lesions occur on the skin. With further progression of the disease, bone and cartilage tissue destruction is likely.
Basalioma. What is this pathology?
The disease received its name from basal cells located in the upper layer of the skin. Of them, the ailment develops.
Types of pathology
There are various forms of basal cell carcinoma. There is a superficial appearance of pathology, tumor, ulcerative, pigmented and scleroderm-like. Depending on the form of the disease, there are also its external manifestations.
Presence of nodules protruding above the skin is characterized by a tumor basal cell. Neoplasms have a smooth surface and clearly visible small vessels. It happens that on their surface there are erosion areas, which are covered with crusts.
Ulcer basalioma - what is this pathology? It is an ailment arising as a primary variant of a tumor. It is the result of the aggravation of surface erosion. Externally, the tumor is similar to an ulcer with a well visible ridge on the periphery. Sometimes the size of this new growth is considerable. It can be ten centimeters or more.
Pigmentation of the affected area is accompanied by pigmentary basal cell. Scleroderm-like pathology is similar to a dense whitish plaque, which has foci on the periphery.
Causes of ailment
Basal cell arises because of frequent and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. The cause of the pathology may be the effect on the body of benzene, coal or tobacco tar, arsenic, toluene or ionizing radiation. The development of the disease can trigger a genetic predisposition.
Treatment
In the case when the tumor is small, surgical removal of the basal cell is performed. Feedback from experts recommend this method as the most effective in the early stages of development of pathology. However, it is used when the neoplasm is located only on the trunk or on the legs. This is due to the fact that after a surgical procedure, scars remain on the body.
Elimination of the neoplasm can be carried out by radiotherapy, electrocoagulation or cryogenic destruction. In certain cases, a cytotoxic drug may be prescribed by a specialist. These include "Bloomycin" and "Prospidin" medications.
