VAZ-21144 - a classic in a new guise

Since the release of the first front-wheel Volga autoclassics has passed more than a dozen years. Time passed, but as it turned out, the car factory simply did not have worthy concepts for the development of this direction. In the future, this led to the emergence of the second generation of machines of the "Samara" series. In particular, the production of the VAZ-21144 car was set up, which by right can be considered a deep restyling of the classic "nine".

For the first time the car was introduced to the public in 2001, serial production began only two years later and will continue until December 2013. What distinguishes the restyling model from its ancestor? Firstly, it's a completely new instrument panel, executed in a European manner. Secondly, an adjustable steering column and the steering wheel itself. Also, a new heater and front electric windows were installed. As for the power unit, the VAZ-21144 began to install an eight-valve engine (1.5 liters) with distributed fuel injection. Exterior as a whole came out similar to the progenitor, changes only touched the spoiler, bumpers and lighting. Some adjustments were also made to the safety of the car. In particular, the ABS system and safety glazing are installed.

Since 2007, a new eight-valve power unit (1.6 liters) has been installed on the machine, which belongs to the ecological class Euro-3. The model received the VAZ-21144 index. The technical characteristics of the new engine include the location of the catalyst directly near the engine, and not under the bottom, the unit itself is clad in decorative plastic. Among other things, the car received a new torpedo from a more rigid material, a new instrument panel and a simple on-board computer.

In 2008, the car underwent a minimal change concerning the replacement of wide door moldings with narrow ones. A year later one of the VAZ subsidiaries completed the modernization of the VAZ-21144. The characteristics of the new version indicate that the car received a new 16-liter engine injector (1.6 hp, 89 hp). Other significant nodes were also modernized. At the VAZ-21144 were installed a new: 5-speed gearbox, reinforced clutch and ventilated front brake discs. The dynamics of the car has increased significantly, fuel consumption has decreased, and the slightly lower ground clearance allows you to confidently enter the turn at high speed. This modification was equipped with 14-inch wheels. The luggage compartment with the folded back seat can accommodate even more lengthy loads.

What about version 21144 in general? This car is an excellent option for daily operation. A quality engine and reliable suspension can provide confidence when overtaking on any road surface.
