The variety of "Shtriefel" apples is widely known in our country as "Autumn striped" or "Streifling". It refers to the apple trees of the autumn ripening period. This very popular variety reaches a removable maturity in September. Full ripening of the fruit occurs 1-1.5 months after harvest. At the same time, all their consumer properties are only improving. Under favorable storage conditions, the variety of "Strifel" apples can be preserved until the New Year. It is not exactly established who and when brought it out, but one thing is reliably known is that it comes from the Baltic States. This variety is one of the oldest in the so-called folk selection.

Description

The Apple Tree "Strifel" is distinguished by its winter hardiness. Tall trees have a wide crown. The overwhelming number of fruits is formed on small rings, located on semi-skeletal branches, thickening the crown. Timely thinning is the right way to increased illumination of the whole tree and increase the size of the fruit. The foliage has a rounded shape, not curved and strongly pubescent. The ends of the branches are drooping.

The tree enters the fruiting period rather late (8-9 years), but at the same time it is distinguished by its longevity. The productivity of apple trees is growing gradually. Old trees can be subjected to rejuvenating pruning (after 20 years). After that, they give a large increase in young shoots. The apple variety "Shtriefel" is characterized by high yield. He does not tolerate a prolonged drought, so during the hot season, he needs regular watering. "Shtrifel" - a variety of apples, which has an average degree of resistance to scab.

This type of apple tree is characterized by large, spherical fruits and ribbed at their base. Smooth, thin peel has a wax coating. The main color - greenish-yellow (with the removal of fruits). During full maturation, it becomes intensely yellow. On the surface of the apple there are orange-red stripes. When they mature, they change their shade to brown. There is a variety of these apple trees, the fruits of which are marked by a pronounced red color.

Juicy pulp has a pale yellow color. Under the skin, it often becomes pinkish. Apples have a harmonious sweet and sour taste and a delicate aroma. Fruits can be stored in fresh form, and also used for making juices, purees, compotes. The fruit contains such useful substances: sugar (10%), acids (up to 0.8%), pectins (up to 12%), P-active substances (124 mg%). The apple variety "Shtriefel" has a unique feature: the north the tree grows, the more vitamin C in them (from 5 to 12 mg%). For the preservation of productivity at a high level, spring and autumn fertilizers are produced annually by minerals and organic substances.

Collection and storage

To the fruits are not overripe, they should be removed from the tree in a timely manner. Usually the harvest is at the end of September. In the refrigerator, these fruits can be stored until the beginning of December. If apples are contained in a regulated gas environment, they do not lose their consumer properties within 3-3.5 months. In this case, only about 2-3% of the fruits lose their presentation.
