Valery Karpin: do great players become good coaches?

One of the most odious figures of domestic football, Valery Karpin, for his playing and coaching career had a lot of ups and downs. He also worked in the field of business. Now Karpin himself threw himself a new challenge, leading the club of the FNL Torpedo (Armavir). He tries to prove to everyone that he represents himself as a very independent coach.

early years

Many experts Valery Karpin is celebrated as one of the most talented football players of the late Soviet period. He started his way in the children's football school of the native Estonian city of Narva. As a child, Karpin had a choice between football and hockey, and he preferred the summer sport, because he showed good results in the ball game.

Estonia had no representation in the higher league of the USSR championship, moreover, during the Soviet era players of draft age were to serve in one of the army clubs. So in 1988, Valery Karpin was in the Moscow CSKA. End of service young football player served in Voronezh "Torch". Immediately after the end of military duty, Karpin moves to Moscow's Spartak.

The heyday of a player's career

The talent of the young footballer, who is in favor of the "Torch", was noticed by the breeder Valentin Pokrovsky. Despite the fact that in the collapsing Union there were beggarly salaries from athletes, it can be said that the Russian generation of football players of the late 80s and early 90s was one of the most talented.

Another thing is that the talents did not manage to gain a fortune in the won titles, but this was hampered by the circumstances of the collapse of the great power. Speaking for "Spartacus", Valery Karpin was able to brightly show himself with the light hand of coach Oleg Romantsev, who replaced the role of a young football player. So, Karpin retrained to the right midfielder, which brought a lot of benefits to the club.

Letter of fourteen

Before the 1994 World Cup, which was held in the fields of the United States of America, the Russian national team, which received the right to compete in international competitions as a successor to the CIS, there was a grandiose split. The players did not want to see Pavel Sadyrin at the helm and openly announced this in an official message. 14 players, among whom was Karpin Valery Georgievich, urged the Football Federation of the country to return to the coaching bridge of Anatoly Byshovets, who laid the foundation of the team even before the 1992 European Championships.

Football players were dissatisfied with scanty prize payments, sponsorship and contractual deductions. Of course, the attempt to influence the leadership of the country's football of the main group of Spartak players (namely, they formed the backbone of the national team) did not lead to anything. Players who could successfully perform at the world forum, infected with a thirst for money and tormented by an internal split, suffered a complete fiasco at the 1994 World Cup.

Career in Spain

After the penniless Russian championship, the Spanish team seemed to Karpin a paradise. A little playing in the "Real Sociedad", after 2 years the football player moved to "Valencia". However, for a long time to gain a foothold in the main part of the club Karpin managed only in "Celta". As part of this club, Valery Karpin was officially recognized as Spain's best midfielder.

Parallel to the game practice, the football player conducted active social activities, appeared on television, quickly mastered the Spanish language, and also participated in court hearings, defending the rights of Russian legionaries in Spain for full social security. Successful social activities and accumulated capital enabled Karpin to have his own business in Spain. Later, the player received Spanish citizenship.

Business

Initially, Valery Karpin did not plan to become a coach. After completing his football career at Real Sociedad, having some capital in his hands, he dabbled in business: he founded a construction company, sponsored a Spanish team of cyclist-drivers, managed to work as president of a little-known volleyball club, and conducted a program on Spanish television. Skills of doing business in a sports team came in handy to him a little later, when he returned to his homeland.

Coach career

The leadership of the native Moscow "Spartak" invites Karpin to the post of the general director of the club in 2008. Foreign coaches, actively involved in working with the club, could not provide the desired result. Therefore, not having a coaching license, Karpin himself decides to head the club and try to pull "Spartacus" to the former heights.

The coach's license was soon received, but the first results in the new field were not so impressive. The head of the club Leonid Fedun was forced again to resort to the help of a foreign specialist. But even with Unai Emery, the results did not come. "Spartacus" no longer represented such a formidable force as in the 80's and 90's of the last century.

In his second coming as coach of Spartak Karpin never exceeded his best achievement with the team - the second place in the national championship in the 2011-2012 season.

Valery Karpin, Torpedo (Armavir): from scratch

Not winning the laurels as head coach of Mallorca, in summer 2015, Karpin is headed by the FNL club, based in the city of Armavir. How to know, maybe this is his finest hour. In any case, Karpin in case of failure will have a chance to return to the field of business.
