UAZ 390945 "Farmer" - all-wheel drive hybrid of domestic production

UAZ 390945 "Farmer" is the result of an unusual combination of a minibus and a truck. If you take a good look, you can see that the body and the chassis of the car were borrowed from the truck UAZ 3303 model, and the cabin (or more precisely, half) - from the legendary "Loaf". According to the manufacturer, the new modification differs from the simple truck UAZ in that it has increased patency and comfort. With the first, of course, it's impossible to argue, the use of the all-wheel drive has borne fruit. But comfort ... Here things stand in a different way.

Design

To understand the peculiarities of the new UAZ, we will start with the design.

Honestly, in appearance, there is nothing to talk about. The cabin is old, the cargo platform and the sides are also not new. If you plunge into the history and compare the first UAZ, from which the engineers took half the bodywork and put it on the frame, nothing really changed. By today's standards, this is the development of the 1960s. Then about any chrome trim or aerodynamic body kit and visors, even speech was not forthcoming. In addition, the "Tadpole" is a military vehicle, so few people thought about its design, and in those years even more so. In general, with the transition from "war" to "citizen" UAZ has not yet managed. And it does not make sense to wait until it becomes modern.

Salon

And now about the most important thing - the salon. Here, according to the manufacturer, there is everything for the comfort of an ordinary farmer. What the engineers had in mind when calling the modification "Farmer" (after all, this word is of American origin), if they were not in Russia, it is not clear. UAZ 390945, maybe improved in the development stage, but we, apart from the old "super-ascetic" panel of Soviet-era devices, a pair of "bedside tables" resembling a chair, and a new table standing between them, did not notice anything.

The lack of electronics and comfort, perhaps, makes the car easier to operate, but still not to that extent.

What's under the hood?

The new truck UAZ engine petrol - ZMZ 409. With its 2,700 cubic centimeters of capacity, it gives a power of 112 horsepower. By the way, until recently, the "Farmer" used a carburetor. Now the UAZ injector with the ecological standard Euro-2. The motor is fast, taut, but the 5th gear on the road is clearly not enough (4MKPP is installed on the "Farmer"). Already at 60 kilometers in the cabin begins to rattle, make noise and vibrate. Noise isolation here, to put it mildly, is not the best.

is it so bad?

Of course not. In justification for the ancient design and uncomfortable interior, we can say that, perhaps, because of this, UAZ still has such a simple and reliable design. You can repair UAZ 390945 simply in the field, you can buy a spare part almost for nothing and install it in 5 minutes with a minimum of tools. And if there are no tools, you can always use the materials you need. And this is not fiction, but real facts. Try to do so with the "Sprinter", and he will not pass a kilometer after such repairs, will break and stand on the sidelines, and then wait for a huge account in the technical center. Our UAZ firmly tolerates any obstacles, any swamp will pass, and if it breaks, it will reach the nearest 5 or even 50 kilometers to the house.

Therefore, despite the low comfort and obsolete design, in terms of technical equipment UAZ 390945 at altitude, for which it is loved by our car owners. And we value him for the fact that he is really reliable, easy to operate and cheap in service, although, of course, a lot about the comfort and design of criticism.
