Twilight Dithering: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

The mental state, brain work and mental clarity are the most important factors affecting the quality of life. If a person does not perceive reality, does not act consciously, then it is more difficult for him to adapt among people and society. Often a violation of the psyche and the unusual behavior of a person is due to a number of diseases. One such disorder is consciousness. There are several types of this state, one of which is called obscuration. It is a predisposition of the human psyche to changeable states. It provokes a disturbance of the psyche, which lasts from a few seconds to a dozen days.

Main features

  • Detachment from the surrounding reality with manifestations of non-perception of time and reality.
  • Non-perception of location, time space, etc.
  • Violation of communication in thinking, lack of clarity of thoughts, not true statements.
  • Unconscious short-term fits of consciousness.

For a confident statement of the correct diagnosis, doctors are based on the manifestation of all of the above signs.

Five fundamental stages of the obscuration of human consciousness

  • Stunned.
  • Delirium.
  • Oneyroid.
  • Amenity.
  • Twilight confusion.

Stun

Stunning is a pathology that has a distinctive feature - mental impoverishment. The patient in behavior becomes more closed, with a slowed coordination of movements, detached, in a state of prostration. He does not quite understand the speech in the dialogue, responds inaccurately. But this stage of the disease does not have obvious disorders of the psyche. A person does not experience aggression, there are no hallucinations, confusion of consciousness to a high degree, insomnia. In the absence of treatment, this stage can become complicated, as a result of which a person stops talking, then moves and falls into a coma. The initial stage of stunning is called obnubilation.

Delirium

Delirious manifestation of changes in consciousness, the so-called delirious syndrome, is directly opposed to the diagnosis of stunning. The disease is active, the patient has visions that are not related to the surrounding reality, he lives in his world of hallucinations. A mania of persecution and greatness can appear. The patient sees non-existent persons, himself in the role of someone, participates in actions with fictional beings from his visions. The patient can actively move, there are sparks in the eyes, porridge in the head. He can talk about people and actions that are not really there, but the patient will insist: "I hear voices!" Auditory and visual hallucinations occur throughout the period of the course of the disease.

The patient understands who he is, but does not realize who surrounds him, the twilight confusion of consciousness does not allow him to determine his location. The disease progresses at the end of the day and at bedtime. Such patients rarely have a clear consciousness. When the illness worsens, they go deep into their own consciousness, they say little, speech is silent, commenting on visions and actions outside of time and people nearby. With a long course of the disease a person starts to make the same, sharp movements, experiences delirium and hallucinations, but less, does not come into contact with others, moves little. After eliminating the causes and symptoms of the disease may not remember what happened to him.

Oneyroid

The one-borne form of obscuration is a disorder of a person's consciousness, manifested in a state of delirium and bearing the same symptoms: porridge in the head, sparkles in the eyes, fantastic visions and picturesque dreams far from reality. The state of the psyche is changeable, moving from detachment to hyperexcitation. The patient does not see and does not hear people nearby, lives in his own fantasy world.

Such people rarely have high activity, can sit for hours or stand in the same place, do not say anything. The facial expression is stone, emotionless, sometimes frightening. After clearing the mind, such patients can talk about their travels and adventures, realizing their existence. Clarification of consciousness and a more realistic perception of reality comes to a person sometimes in a couple of weeks, but in some cases in a couple of months.

Twilight Dithering of Mind

This is the shortest type of change in consciousness. It can take seconds, sometimes it's about a few days. It leaves this condition patient quickly, usually through a prolonged phase of sleep. Often such a patient does not arouse suspicion among others. He behaves detached and does not understand what is really happening.

But sometimes the disease manifests itself more actively. A person is haunted by a feeling of fear, anxiety, he can begin to show anger. It is expressed in movements, speech and actions. The patient can be accompanied by fits of rage, during which he attacks the people around him, breaks furniture, destroys objects. He is under the influence of delirium and hallucinations. When attacks fall off, a person does not remember his actions.

The sun-blinding

There is such a thing as a salmon twilight confusion of consciousness. This is a manifestation of the illness during a sharp awakening of the patient from the state of sleep. There is a disturbance of consciousness. Symptoms: an attack of fear, the patient is afraid of surrounding people, makes the same movements. The active phase lasts about 10-20 minutes, after which the patient falls into a prolonged sleep. Rarely, but a person can remember vaguely what happened to him.

It should be understood that the obscuration of consciousness in humans in the form of delirium, stunning, amenity in the majority of cases is provoked by infectious diseases, poisoning due to intoxication with chemical substance, encephalitis, etc.

The defeat of blood vessels and nervous system in the above diseases can lead to such forms of turbidity. Twilight confusion may be a concomitant manifestation of epileptic seizures or post-traumatic conditions. Oneyroid is one of the manifestations of schizophrenia.

Preconditions affecting the sharp confusion of consciousness

The clarity of consciousness can change dramatically and with a high amplitude, from a complete lack of understanding of reality to mild disorders. This condition can arise in almost any person, regardless of the already existing diseases. The patient can suddenly say: "I hear voices," and then immediately shut up in myself.

The main causes of confusion

  • Obtained under certain circumstances injuries in the head.
  • Disturbed cerebral circulation, restriction of access of oxygen to the brain.
  • Stagnation of blood in the vessels of the brain.
  • Pathological changes in the brain tissues (eg, progressive Alzheimer's disease).
  • High emotional loads.

  • Increase or sharp decrease in blood sugar, diabetic coma.
  • Sharp loss of fluid in the human body.
  • In people of post-retirement age, progressive diseases of the genitourinary system.
  • High body temperature.
  • Infectious diseases of the brain - encephalitis, meningitis.
  • Poisoning with ethyl alcohol.
  • Poisoning with drugs, including psychotropic.

The main signs of mental obscuration

  • Lack of orientation.
  • Ignoring the surrounding people and objects.
  • Hallucinations.
  • Overexcitation.
  • Sharp changes in mood.
  • Unnecessary previous actions.
  • Abstraction, lack of interest in the usual occupations.

  • Violation of speech, memory and hearing.
  • Slow and confused thinking process.
  • Lack of concentration.

What measures to take when the mind is darkened?

It is necessary to call a doctor in a timely manner. Especially when it comes to injuries, poisoning, epilepsy, infectious diseases. It is necessary to constantly contact the patient, so that the clarity of consciousness remains, to provide him peace before the arrival of the ambulance.

Methods for treatment of mental obscuration

When signs of this form of the disease, such as twilight confusion of consciousness, a person should be taken to a consultation with a psychiatrist or placed for treatment in a psychiatric medical institution. Do not do it yourself, it is better to call an ambulance, so that the patient is delivered by health workers. In the aggressive behavior of the patient, ambulance agents administer sedatives, and then they are transported to the clinic

You do not need to give yourself sedatives. Depending on the severity of the disease and the manifestation of its signs, treatment can take from 3 weeks to many months. In acute attacks of aggression, patients can be placed in a psychiatric hospital of a closed type. For people with minimal changes in the psyche, there are medical centers for borderline status. After the course of treatment, a person can return to the old way of life. But with a combination of negative circumstances, attacks of the disease can happen again.

Basically, the patient is prescribed complex medication with psychotropic drugs, antidepressants are prescribed. The patient is under constant supervision of doctors in a medical institution. When the condition improves, they can go home and take breaks in treatment. When the disease worsens, a second course of therapy is prescribed. In the aggressive course of the disease people are isolated from society for a long time.

After discharge from the medical institution, it is recommended not to overburden the patient's psyche, not to create disease-provoking situations, to protect him from emotional overload. Doctors advise after the completion of the full course of treatment to undergo rehabilitation in order to adapt more easily after a period of isolation from the community.

Unfortunately, the confusion of consciousness can not be cured in full. On the contrary, the disease can develop into more severe forms, for example, various types of schizophrenia. With such mental illnesses, some patients do not realize the happiness of realizing reality. Deep disorientation of the patient for many years makes it necessary to undergo treatment in closed hospitals. Sometimes treatment with short breaks lasts a lifetime. Even being among people, such a patient behaves detached. The disease does not manifest itself actively, there is no aggression. But man still leads a separate way of life, has detached behavior. The changes that have occurred in the psyche are irreversible, the attacks of a vivid manifestation of the disease are temporarily stopped.
