Triangular lake - a unique corner of Russia

The Leningrad region is famous for its magnificent nature - forests, lakes and rivers. It can be said that water bodies are the visiting card of this region. According to scientists, there are more than forty thousand lakes in the vicinity of St. Petersburg. All of them differ in size and history of origin. Most of them are located in Vyborg, Podporozhsky and Priozersk districts. As a rule, they are of glacial origin, and therefore their depth is not too great.

Residents of the northern capital like to spend their free time on the lakes. Magnificent nature, clean fresh air, fascinating fishing attract townspeople. Of particular interest are these places in the extreme holiday lovers. This is easily explained: in the vicinity of the city there are picturesque Karelian granite rocks.

Ten years ago, the most visited areas were the Great Cliffs near the Hawk Lake and the Hiatola cliffs, located in the same direction. Since 2000, the young region, located at the Finnish border - the rocks of Lake Triangular, has actively developed, which has rapidly gained popularity among fans of rock climbing and bouldering in our country.

Triangular Lake, Vyborgsky District

To relax a bit in the fresh air, enjoy the silence and beauty of the wild nature, many residents of St. Petersburg go to the countryside. We also offer you a small virtual excursion to Triangular Lake (Leningrad region). It is located forty kilometers from Vyborg in the direction of Svetogorsk.

Triangular lake, the photo of which you can see below, is hidden from prying eyes and reliably protected by rocks. It is especially picturesque in summer. Here you can fish, admire its blue mirror finish. But most tourists, especially in recent years, prefer to come here to do their favorite sport - rock climbing.

The arrays surrounding the Triangular Lake have become a real Mecca for fans of active pastime. The rock mass is located almost on the Finnish border, in the northern part of the Karelian Isthmus. The picturesque nature and a large number of interesting trails for beginners and professionals beckon here to all who dream of conquering the mountains and rocks.

This massif surrounding the Triangular Lake was discovered only recently (in 2000) by Vladimir Molodozhen and Konstantin Beketov. In 2001, the first routes were already laid here. According to experts, the potential of this area is huge. Rock massifs with a huge number of paved trails, a lot of parking places, no problems with water - what could be better for outdoor activities?

Weather

The period from July to August is ideal for visiting the Leningrad region. At this time, the air warms up to +28 ° C, and the water in the lake - up to +26 ° C. Climbers prefer to go to these places in June and September. Experienced tourists believe that at this time the weather on Triangular Lake is more convenient for practicing their favorite sport, especially for bouldering and difficult routes, because the air temperature is 2-3 degrees lower.

In addition, in June white nights begin here . This feature allows climbers to practice almost around the clock. Lovers to spend May holidays in nature should be guided by a long-term weather forecast - in the early spring such a trip can be fascinating.

Natural and ethnographic park

Lake Triangular and the Lietlahti farm are part of the unique complex. According to the idea of the creators of the natural-ethnographic park and at the same time the hosts of the farm - the spouses of Jean and Olga Grazhulis, the project provides for several vectors of development:

  • Sports-amateur and sports directions;
  • Rural tourism;
  • Regional studies and ethnography;
  • Construction of carpentry, carpentry, stucco and pottery workshops;
  • The creation of a camping center.

Formulating the park concept, the Grazulis couple state that this is an effective way of approaching land use. The main goal of the complex is to provide guests with the opportunity to delve into the history of these places and to communicate with nature.

A bit of history

Until 1940, the name of Lietlahti was worn by a village that was not far from a small Fortress Lake. Today it has another name - Triangular Lake. The first houses in this area appeared in 1635. By the beginning of the twentieth century, there were about twenty-five houses in the village of Lietlahti (Kirva district of the Finnish principality).

Later this territory was included in the Russian Empire, then (after 1917) became part of independent Finland, and in 1940 became part of the RSFSR.

Lietlachti today

Today it is a natural and ethnographic park, which began to be created in 2008. Simultaneously, work began to restore the homonymous farm. The territory of the present park corresponds to the square occupied by the village of Lietlahti.

At present, guests have a large house, which can simultaneously accommodate thirty-five people. On the territory of the farm there is electricity, water and gas, Wi-Fi, toilet and bath. There are 268 trails in the park. In 2015, two new sectors for climbing with rope were mastered: routes for beginners and a rather complex sector of Inkorpi. The Triangular Lake arrays are within walking distance of the Lietlahti camping and the main house.

Routes and rocks

The rocks of Triangular Lake are unique. They differ from other Karelian massifs with a huge variety of relief. Here you can see "sheep's foreheads" with sharp passives and mizers, large vertical cracks, overhanging plates, internal corners. Inexperienced climbers here have where to work on the skill: for them, more than twenty routes have been developed. Below we present you the most popular of them.

"Right Crow's Nest"

Even and long route, which has a pull-out to the "nest", rest in it and exit to the top. Even the available dolblenki in the middle of the route does not spoil the general impression.

"Prophetic Oleg"

The route laid along the "ram's foreheads", passives and mizers. The track is uniform, of medium complexity.

"Kid and Carlson Castaneda"

A great route, having only one drawback - a short extension. Require athlete self-control and attention.

"Pine"

This route begins on a shallow site, followed by a key transition from an inclined shelf to a vertical slot. The transition is not clearly pronounced, it is necessary to find a hook. You can try to do this several times, returning to the shelf for rest.

Pisu Peas

The route belongs to category 6c, but at the same time it differs by a rather complicated beginning. Hooks are sharp, so without the experience it's better not to try to master it: many attempts here will not be done.

All routes are very different: from the shortest bouldering - up to 12 m, to long ones, calculated for endurance - up to 25 m, complexity from 5s to 8s. Routes of the most different angle of inclination from "recumbent" to strong overhangs, besides, they often change their angle of inclination.

Northern white nights allow you to arrange two workouts a day. Usually the first begins at 10.00 and lasts until 15.00, and the second - after swimming in the lake, lunch and daytime rest from 21.00 to 24.00. Most of the rocks are directed to the south. Therefore, even after prolonged summer rains, they very quickly dry out in the sun, except that there are only large cracks. And on some routes with strong overhangs you can train even in heavy rain.

Accommodation

In recent years, most tourists prefer to stay in the park of Lietlahti. Here you will be offered comfortable accommodation in a central house or in a camping. All premises are provided with electricity, water, there is a kitchen for cooking with all necessary utensils. On the territory there is an excellent bath. Free parking is available at the guest house.

And lovers of a more romantic holiday can settle on the shore of Triangular Lake in a tent parking lot. The only condition that should be strictly observed when creating your camp is not to take up parking spaces of various communities and climbers' clubs. The whole area around the lake is in the official, documented leased from the company "Winner".

Directly to the parking lot by car, you can not drive, you need to follow the path. This should be taken into account when traveling with young children.

Rules of accommodation

As Triangular Lake becomes more popular every year, experienced tourists and climbers call for observing the rules of behavior. They are quite simple:

  • Do not leave garbage behind;
  • Watch out for the bonfires;
  • Bury the toilets;
  • Do not discharge household waste and chemicals into the lake;
  • Do not leave on the rocks and trees inscriptions and drawings.

Communication with border guards

Triangular lake with rock massifs and the Lietlahti Park are in the border zone. It is recommended that all guests respect the representatives of the border guard service. Sometimes they come to the parking lot or you can meet them on the trails. As a rule, a polite and friendly conversation ends with checking documents.

Climbers with a pass are allowed to:

  • Freely be in the reserve and the border zone;
  • Punch rocks and rest on the shore of the lake;
  • to fish.

Making a Pass

To the border zone, except for the lake, the rocks and the park, there is also a section of the road on which the border points are located. When you transit or are in the border zone, you need a pass. To date, there has not been a single case of failure for climbers. The document is issued without extra questions, however, the procedure is delayed for 30 days. Therefore, you should take care of this in advance by ordering documents in Vyborg or St. Petersburg, and on the way to the rocks to pick them up. This service is free of charge.
