The car GAZ-33073 can rightfully be called legendary. After all, its production did not stop for about twenty years. The car replaced the morally outdated 53rd GAZon. Characteristic

The car GAZ model 33073 began serially produced in the USSR. The first copies were issued in the year 89. At that time it was a powerful advanced truck with an impressive design and improved cabin. A few years later Gorky Automobile Plant began to produce various modifications on its basis. So, there was a diesel version 3309, as well as an all-wheel drive truck "Sadko" with the possibility of remote pumping of tires from the cabin. Serially the machine was produced until the appearance of GAZON "NEXT". Gradually, the demand for 33073-GAZ fell. The market demanded a newer truck with modern technical characteristics.

Design

The basis was to take the old, 53rd GAZON. It was on his frame was built a new 33073-GAZ. However, the cabin was completely changed. So, the truck got new angular shapes, another grille, hood and wings. The wheels are the same. The bumper is still made of metal. The bodies were different. Produced as side platforms, and body type "van". There were also dump trucks. Also on the basis of the car 33073-GAZ were produced "vahtovki" and communal equipment (wastewater trucks, snowplows, "polivalki" and others). As for the dimensions, the dimensions of the car were the same. So, the length is 6.55 meters, width - 2.38 m, height - 2.35 m. The car had a high ground clearance, which was equal to 30 centimeters. This allowed the car to move smoothly over rough terrain. The machine was distinguished by excellent cross-country ability, moreover, the base was on a mono-drive. The carrying capacity of the 33073-GAZ, like the fifty-third, was 4 tons. The total weight of the truck is 7.85 tons.

Salon

From the old GAZON there is nothing left. The cabin was created almost from scratch. So, here you can see a 2-spoke steering wheel, which was installed on the Gazelle, a dashboard similar to that of the ZIL-5301 and a long transmission gearshift. The latter "migrated" to GAZon "Next".

A distinctive feature of the model 33073 - the presence of two seats. Previously, on Gazon was a continuous triple "sofa". There was more plastic in the salon. The predecessor of the whole panel was made of metal. But for noise insulation, no improvements were made. The roar of the motor from the "podkapotki" is still heard.

What was finalized?

The manufacturer has improved the heating and ventilation system. Also in the design of the steering system appeared hydraulic booster. Previously, drivers had to twist 20-inch wheels without it. By the way, the disks were with locking rings. Later they were replaced with European-type wheels. Another plus is the availability of free space. The cabin is a little wider. Under the hood of the truck is an 8-cylinder carburetor power unit from the Zavolzhsky Engine Plant. The engine received the marking 5231.10 (earlier on the GAZon put the 511th engine). The unit has an aluminum block and a head, an OHV valve mechanism and a liquid cooling system. The motor was still deformed - it had a compression ratio of 7.6 kgf and worked on the 76th gasoline. The maximum power is 124 horsepower. The working volume is 4.67 liters. The peak torque is almost 300 Nm. The fuel consumption is 20 liters per 100 kilometers. However, in practice, the figure reached 25, which in today's realities is unacceptable for a 4-ton. This is one of the main reasons why GAZ-33073 ceases to operate. The weight of the truck is large, and the volume of the cargo compartment is small. To somehow adapt the car to the requirements of the modern market of road transport, the "Chaika-Service" extends the frame to 5 and 6 meters. So, the truck becomes more profitable. Also the car is equipped with gas-cylinder equipment. Both methane and propane-butane cylinders are installed here. A lot of equipment was exported to Belarus, where it is used to this day.

Diesel modifications

Also, the Belarusian engine MMZ D-245 was put on GAZON (it can also be found on ZIL "Bychok" truck). This is a four-cylinder in-line with a turbo system and direct fuel injection. The engine develops a horsepower of 125 horsepower. The working volume is 4.25 liters. The compression ratio is an order of magnitude higher than that of a carburetor motor, 17 kgf. Also, the power unit was characterized by a higher torque (417 Nm). He was available already from the "bottoms". The fuel consumption, in comparison with the previous one, is 4 liters less. The unit met the requirements of the ecological standard "Euro-3". By the way, the same motor was installed on many tractors and combines.

Transmission

Both versions of the Gazon were manned by a 5-step manual transmission. It was borrowed from the 53rd model of the Gazon. As before, there were no synchronizers in it, which forced drivers to switch speeds with gas transmission.

Suspension

The truck uses a classic suspension scheme - spring, on semi-elliptic springs. Front mounted telescopic shock absorbers. In addition to the main sheets, additional springs are installed behind the back. Fastening of the latter was carried out on special cups. Rubber cushions are installed on the upper and lower part of the spring brackets, which perceived and softened impact loads and prevented the sheets from moving forward.

GAZONT today

The peak popularity of the model 33073 fell on the 90th and early 2000s. With the release of the series of low-tonnage car "Gazelle" demand for GAZON began to fall. After all, the main purpose of this truck is city transportation. "Gazelle" became a competitor for him. With less fuel consumption and maintenance costs, it easily passed into any yards and other nooks. The GAZON with its long base is too clumsy and gluttonous. Therefore, the mass production of the model was discontinued in 2009. Now the model is made in small series, and even then for state structures. The revival of the model was GAZon "Next". This is a fundamentally new truck, which from the factory is equipped with a 7-meter body and a modern frame. Its main purpose is interregional transportation, with which the car copes well.
