Treatment of acute respiratory infections: basic rules

All existing respiratory viral infections differ from each other, but they have practically the same developmental process. The virus penetrates the body through the respiratory tract, multiplies in them and destroys healthy cells, resulting in sneezing, nasal congestion, and sore throat. Further, the virus penetrates into the blood, causing an increase in body temperature, headache, chills and severe malaise.

When infection with ARI, the incubation period lasts usually about 3-5 days. From the onset of the symptoms of the disease to the final recovery usually takes more than a week.

Symptoms of the disease

In both adults and children, the symptoms of acute respiratory viral infection are almost identical: sore throat, sneezing, runny nose, cough, fever, weakness, aching joints, sometimes loose stools. With the progression of the disease, the patient may feel a sensation in the throat, pain, or stinging in the eyeballs. There is lacrimation, dry cough, changing gradually wet, as well as strong discharge from the nose, quickly turning into thick, stretching mucus.

If ARVI treatment is not started at the first symptoms, the disease can turn into serious complications. Thus it is desirable to apply for qualified help to the therapist. If there is no such possibility, it is urgent to start independent, but effective treatment of ARVI.

Time-proven, reliable treatment

First, it is necessary to comply with bed rest with regular airing the room.

Secondly, drink a day at least two liters of warm drink, rich in vitamin C. For example, you can drink tea with lemon, mors and rose hips. Thanks to this, there is an accelerated elimination from the body of toxins formed as a result of the vital activity of viruses.

Treatment of acute respiratory viral infections in adults and children is often not without non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that help reduce pain and reduce temperature. It is necessary to know that it is only necessary to lower the temperature at + 38 ° C, since it is with this value that the body activates its defense mechanisms directed against infection. The exception to this rule are small children and patients suffering from seizures.

Also, ARVI treatment should be accompanied by the use of antihistamines, which remove the swelling of the mucous membranes and nasal congestion. An irreplaceable helper in such diseases are drops in the nose. But abusing vasoconstrictive drops is not recommended, as uncontrolled use of such drugs leads to addiction, causing the development of chronic rhinitis. Therefore, use of vasoconstrictive sprays and drops can be no more than 7 days and not more than 3 times a day.

Do not forget about the treatment of sore throat and cough. Effective will be gargling with sage infusion of sage and marigold. To reduce the viscosity of phlegm and make it easy for cough, you need to take expectorants, for example, Mukaltin.

Well, finally, use antiviral and immunomodulating drugs. Long-term experiments have shown that the universal remedy against viruses are preparations of recombinant interferon produced in the form of rectal suppositories and ointments. The presence of different dosages makes it possible to use the drug for the prevention and treatment of ARVI in children, including newborns, and in adults, including pregnant women.
