Torzhok: sights of Russian architecture

In the northern part of the Tver region, on the bank of the Tvertsa River is a small town Torzhok, whose sights are famous all over the world. Once located at the intersection of six trade roads, it still keeps the spirit of merchant wealth and prosperity. Deservedly bearing the status of a monument of town-planning, Torzhok attractions of the surrounding area open to its numerous guests. There is something to see!

Along the quay

Especially noteworthy is the embankment: along the bank of the river there are mansions and the Church of the Entry of Jerusalem, built in the XVIII century. Churches and monasteries in the city of Torzhok (Tver region) - sights are special. There are so many that would be enough for several large cities!

Not by bread alone ...

The most ancient of these is the Borisoglebsky Monastery, founded in 1038. The fate of the monastery is very sad: it survived the fire, during the Soviet years it was a prison, but today it is again in service. On the territory of the monastery is the tallest building in the city - the Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands. Its height reaches 50 meters.

The combination of simplicity and grandeur of decor brings the connoisseurs of architecture to the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin into the Temple. The stone building with an octagonal spire erected in the beginning of the 17th century still gathers parishioners under its roof.

The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin, striking in beauty , located on a hill near three streams, fascinates the view with blue domes with a scattering of stars. The church is famous for its iconostasis, the best in the whole region.

City center

And on the square "9 January" in the town of Torzhok there are special sights, for example, the Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Constructed already posthumously on the project of Lviv, the chapel originally had only one source of natural light - the dome. In the basement of the building, a source was found, the waters of which were considered healing. Now the chapel is transferred to Borisoglebsky monastery.

In the suburbs of Torzhok in numerous manors and estates there are also many architecturally significant objects.

Beloved Pushkin

On Pogost Prutnia, which has existed for more than 700 years, the famous Anna Kern was buried , the charms of which were once destroyed by Pushkin. By the way, about Pushkin himself: he stopped many times in Torzhok on his way from Moscow to Petersburg, and in 1972 it was decided to open a museum named after the famous writer.

Where kings rested

The Znamenskaya-Raek manor, erected for the rest of the royal family, today hospitably opens the doors to guests: a picturesque park with ponds, buildings connected by a single colonnade that leads to the front yard - all this allows you to touch the past and feel the spirit of the grandeur of this masterpiece of architecture.

Miracle bridge and wooden fire station

The landmarks of Vasilievskoe, located near the town of Torzhok, are not less interesting. For example, the Devil's Bridge, erected from huge stones without fastening solutions. The Museum of Wooden Architecture, created on the territory of the Lviv estate, preserves monuments of rural architecture as artifacts: chapels, barns, a dwelling house and even a fire station.

Gold embroidery and legendary cutlets

Torzhok is famous for his gold-embroidery. Ancient fishery, which came from the Middle Ages, is still preserved in the city, and at the factory large-scale products are being produced from gold threads. But that is not all. Famous firefighter cutlets, invented in this small town of Torzhok, are sights known among meat gourmets.
