The Teide volcano is the pearl of the Canary Islands

When visiting the Canary Islands, everyone is advised to visit the Teide volcano. Believe, not in vain. This is a fantastic place with absolutely unearthly landscapes and views. Today it is not so difficult to get here - there is a decent road, Which you will be pleased to consider the opening views. Along the way, layers of frozen lava are visible: a different color, composition, and the size of the stones. It seems that you are considering the creation of a child who has washed it: an inexpressible mix of colors and textures. On the layers of lava, as in the annual rings of trees, we can consider eruptions. By the way, Teide volcano is considered active. About this continually resembles a characteristic sulfuric smell.

Once the height of the volcano reached 5000 meters, but as a result of a very strong earthquake in 1706, the central part collapsed, as a result Which formed a huge funnel (caldera) in the center of which was the volcano Teide and his "companion" Pico Vieho. Today, Teide is the highest mountain in Tenerife, the Canary Islands, and even Spain. Its height is 3718 meters above sea level. In addition to being a volcano, it is also the only high altitude region in the world with a subtropical climate. Therefore, many rare plants grow here. Some of them can be found only in the Canary Islands, and 12 are found only in this region. Since 1964, the caldera zone has been declared a national park, and since 2007 it has been listed by UNESCO as a world-wide site.

By serpentine, you can go up to the mark of 2356 meters. Here is the first cable car station. The distance is not very big, but it takes a lot of time to overcome it - I want to climb everywhere, to walk around, touch, look and photograph - very very unusual landscapes and views. By the way, you can do it without any special fears - there are no snakes. Having reached the lower station of the cable car, you can go up to the height of 3555 meters by cable car (25 euros per person for Ticket in both directions), or try to walk this distance on foot. True to the time this will take all day, and will require excellent preparation - the route is quite complicated. Walking on a funicular can also bring unpleasant sensations - such a difference in altitude in 8 minutes is not a joke, especially for people with problem health. But if there are no problems with this, then during the ascent you will admire the opening views and you will be able to make many interesting photos.

The remaining meters to the top (163) - a closed zone. To visit her, a special permit is required, followed by a trip to La Orotava or Santa Cruz ( With him to have a passport and his photocopy with a photo). The summit itself is not very impressive, but one realization that this is the highest point of Spain inspires some trepidation.

The best time to visit is spring. During this period Teide volcano appears in all its glory: rare and not very flowers blossom. Thanks to a very interesting plant "Bruce Wildpreth", whose height reaches two meters, the landscape becomes completely unearthly. The weather in Tenerife in May pleases with an abundance of warm sunny days and temperatures of about 20 ° C in the daytime and about 17 ° C at night. When you are going to the mountains, store warm clothing not only in the spring, but even in the summer - no one is immune to the vagaries of the weather at the height, and the Teide volcano will surely be able to "please" you with a low temperature (even in summer). Tenerife, of course, is worth a visit at any time of the year, not for nothing is so famous for the Canary Islands. Here all year round comfortable temperature and optimal humidity, attractive nature and wonderful conditions for recreation. But rest rest, but on the volcano of Teide, still go - you will not regret.
